It's legal to record a conversation in DC if you are one of the people in the conversation (or get approval by one person in the conversation).  I don't know if that makes it ok to do in the White House though.

That shouldn't matter. After all, the official Republican position on revealing classified information is "the president can declassify stuff just by speaking about it to someone, since he has the ability to declassify anything at any time without any process." Right? I mean, that's why Trump handing off top secret intel to Russian visitors isn't illegal and didn't see him impeached and in jail, right?

Or are we talking about something else here? I mean, I'm sure the Trump White House isn't so grossly incompetent it effectively ignores security clearances right? Because, that would be, like, a failure so fundamental and so deep that it would have to be seen as gross incompetence, right?

But maybe I'm wrong and the Trump administration should make sure that it prosecutes a black woman on national security grounds while the President hands out classified information to foreign rivals and talks about pardons for rich white male crooks. It would after all be just one more way in which the Trump administraiton perfectly represents the heart and soul of the Republican Party.
