Trump being better than Obama for race relations is actually a fairly common Republican belief, lol.

God forbid an African American president acknowledge the plight of African Americans in America and elevate them and their issues for a change.

Meanwhile, Trump raises white nationalists whose calling in life is to literally divide the races, and that's B+ on race relations. I don't even know what to say.

It still stuns me at times just how differently I see the world compared to conservatives. It's like we aren't even in the same reality.

F's across the board. He's an imbecile. Anything that is going good isn't because of his thoughts anyway.

You seriously think race relations have become less contentious over the past 2-3 years? If you want to halfway defend Trump here you could say things were already becoming worse before he got elected/started his campaign, but there's no argument he's made things any better.

It still stuns me at times just how differently I see the world compared to conservatives. It's like we aren't even in the same reality.

Btw, I’m not conservative on every issue lol. I’m actually socialist on crime.

LOL, what the hell does that even mean?

fair, but you should have established that beforehand.

Also, I really dont think Trump deserves an A+ in race relations and immigration, and he also doesnt deserve Fs in the economy and.....the economy.

Foreign policy is more in the eye of the beholder, but I think he has been much better on foreign policy(with the categories given) than domestically.

Obama was better than Trump on that issue but he still was terrible on it and that is the reason Trump won in the first place. If Obama was even as good as Dubya on that issue , Trump never becomes President.

It still stuns me at times just how differently I see the world compared to conservatives. It's like we aren't even in the same reality.

Bush good on race relations? He largely got to side step that issue because of the War on Terror sucking all the air out of the room but did you forget Hurricane Katrina and the debacle that was?

And deciding not to coddle white America on the subject of racial bias does not mean Obama was terrible on race. In fact his mere existence is what led so many on the right to become absolutely unhinged on the subject of race. Or did we forget that Trump was the one claiming the first black president was a Muslim foreigner?

But let’s blame the black man for 400 years of institutional white supremacy bubbling back to the surface because white people couldnt handle a black leader. Smiley

I recall an NYT article I posted on Atlas some months ago, and it kind of touched on the race issue in a way that I think explains the big picture of why race relations took a dive with Obama. I'll just say ahead of time that me and you probably won't agree on this:

You see, it seems white people declared the race issue is "over" and "fixed" once the Civil Rights Act/VRA was passed, and segregation was ended, and they just hushed up about it. Any talk about clear injustices black people face all the time is "divisive," and merely bringing it up, to them, is inappropriate.

My point here is that a great many white people seem to think that merely mentioning issues of race and problems black people face is "divisive," and probably because it makes them uncomfortable. Obviously a lot of people prone to casual racism don't actually think they are racist - they are just completely blind to their own words and actions, and literally don't make these connections, but also refuse to even acknowledge they may be looking at this issue wrong. It's almost like their subconsciously sense the problem, but are so deeply stubborn and uncomfortable that their mind forces them to reject the idea and instead actually blame the messenger.

If you mean Obama's record on race relations was terrible because the end result of his tenure was racial division, without considering why that was, then OK, fine, sure. But I look at why this is, and it seems like white people are blaming Obama for their own inability to grasp society's problems and their weirdly stubborn desire to shield their ears from any such talk.
