In a just country, the President wouldn't unilaterally strip people like Brennan of their security clearances and instead a jury would send them to prison for war crimes.

One: Our government has long since been captured by a security-defense-intelligence apparatus that regularly takes reprehensible actions against the public interest for its own benefit.

Two: Trump is a petty, immature wanna-be dictator who is grossly unfit for the position he holds.

The two aren't related, except that Trump's actions here are one more demonstration of the second point. He would be making cheap shots and petty revenges at his critics no matter if they were socialist revolutionaries, mercantile imperialists, or ideal representatives of some perfect republican government. The hateful clown remains a hateful clown, no matter who his opponents are.

Why do these people have security clearances when they are retired?

Seriously, I didn't realize that all of these "retirees" keep their security clearances.  I read about things like this and I think of all these folks talking about the "Deep State".  Frankly, revoking Brennan's clearance is a needed cutting back of any Deep State we have.  He's retired.  Why does he get a Security Clearance if he's retired?

Are you listening to yourself? Now, even you are talking like a trump cultist with this "Deep State" bullpoop.

Just about all top-officials from past administrations keep their security clearance status, just in case they are called and needed for advice on a military or other emergency matter.
It's been like that for many years.
Why is Brennan being targeted? It's obvious that it is retaliation from the Orange Narcissist Moron, because his feelings are hurt. That is how our president treats our national security. It's all dependent and based on who he likes and who licks his butt the most. That's it.

I still question the practice.  If these guys are needed back, issue them a new security clearance.  But the idea that they KEEP them is something that is, quite frankly, Deep State-ish; it's the appearance of an unpaid shadow government whose "officials" have access to its latest secrets.

There are different levels of clearance. None of these people are read in to the latest TS/CI material, like Mattis and Pompeo and Haspel are, as they’re not active. And issuing a “new” clearance is more of a process than necessary. That’s why, as a matter of practice, former officials keep a reduced clearance in case their successors need to discuss something with them from their tenure.

Of course we’ve now explained this several times and you’re still rambling about the Deep State so I’m led to think you’re just willfully obtuse to once again avoid criticizing Trump’s behavior

I was unaware of this practice, and the full implications.  The concept of a "Deep State" is kind of a new issue, and I'm not one of those folks with those hangups, but the idea that these guys have their clearances kept over the years, even if they are inactive, is something that is surprising.

I really don't have a problem with Brennan's clearance being revoked.  Political?  Yes, and to the max, but Brennan has gone that route as well.

Crazy Donnie

This would have been an extremely petty act if Trump had gone through with it. His birtherism against former President Obama is one of the reasons why I didn't vote for him in 2016, and won't in 2020.

The more alarming thing is that he's talking about revoking the clearance of Bruce Ohr, a current DoJ official. That would basically render him unable to do his job, and would probably be tantamount to firing him and also rendering him mostly unemployable in his field.

So what if that happens and is allowed to stand? Can Trump assign people to trawl federal employees' social media accounts for loyalty to the president, and revoke clearances if he doesn't like what he sees?

He should be in a maximum-security prison.
