opinion of Disney firing Gunn

The director of the Gaurdians of the Galaxy movies has been fired by Disney because he made some off color jokes on Twitter many years ago.  Complicating things is that they were discovered by conservatives looking to harm him after he defended Mark Duplass when Twitter blew up after Duplass suggested that liberals should follow Ben Shapiro.

I understand why a company like Disney would have fired him. The online #pizzagate people are obviously insane - this is merely severe edginess rather than anything deeper, but it's a deeply weird 40 something that says this sort of stuff online.

All* artists are weird.  I haven't figured out which one comes first yet.  Are they weird and thus like doing art....or does doing art make one weird?

It's obviously stupid and hypocritical since he already made these comments when he was first hired and had even publicly apologized for them I believe. There's no way Disney didn't know about it when they first hired him.

On the other hand, if this was someone somehow identified with the right none of the liberals objecting to it would say anything against it. In that light this could lead to them being more self aware about this stuff and have a positive social impact.

I don’t know a lot about this case, but surely contrition is a factor, as is the difference between judging one’s character versus one being fired. That said, in-person I have been around my share of off-color humor, and there is a difference, I believe, to putting certain things in writing in front of an audience of strangers.
