On a very sad note, Purdue fan Tyler Trent has died from cancer at the age of 20.

I sat quiet close to him at the Purdue game v. Missouri. Very sad! Sad

Everything that can be said about Georgia can also be said about UCF, with their loss to LSU in the Fiesta Bowl.

A football icon passing on New Year's Day is the equivalent of losing a President on July 4. Likely the only story-line that anyone will ever take away from the 2018 season achieves its divinely-written story ending for the eventual movie.

Way off-topic, but an interesting factoid (which I'm sure many Atlas users already know) is that Presidents John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, the driving forces behind the Declaration of Independence, both died on July 4, 1826 -- the Declaration's 50th anniversary.  Jefferson was 83 and Adams was 90.

No freshman QB is beating Nick Saban for a National Championship.

Alabama 30, Clemson 7.

31-17 Bama, but I'll confess I'm not that excited about seeing this matchup again.

Well, this was not one of my better predictions.

Alabama was clearly the better team until the last Clemson drive in the third. Justyn Ross is unbelievable. Well-earned championship, painful as this has been.

Well obviously the game didn't turn out the way I wanted it to. Alabama was outplayed and outcoached in pretty much every facet of the game. The offense didn't look great, Tua was rattled, defense couldn't slow down Clemson's offense, and special teams was anemic. Hats off to Dabo and Clemson. Trevor Lawrence is a stud and Clemson will remain a dominant team in the years to come. Several people in my town were roommates with Dabo when he was at Alabama so I definitely have a soft spot for them.

Though our season didn't end with a National Championship, 14-1 is nothing to scoff at, even if it is considered a failure by many Bama fans. I'm ready for Part V next year! Roll Tide!

Looking forward to next year, Bama has a piss-poor non-conference schedule and will have to get through Auburn/Miss St on the road and (likely) UGA again in the SEC champy.

If there's going to be a year where one-loss Bama doesn't make it, it's probably 2019.

At the time I made that pick, only three freshman Quarterbacks had ever beaten a Nick Saban coached team.

So I feel justified in my pick, even though I was utterly wrong.

I think it's more likely Alabama doesn't make it in either 2022 or 2023, because they probably will get a second loss against Texas.

Duke is good, but they aren't good enough (in football) to beat Alabama, and losing the SEC Championship game isn't going to be enough to keep a one loss Alabama out, unless there are four unbeaten Power Five Conference champions.

Which they're very well could be just between Clemson, UGA, OU/Texas, and Notre Dame.  I don't trust tOSU or Michigan enough to go undefeated, though.

There is absolutely no way you can tell how good a team will be in 2022 or 2023 at this point.

Yes. Four years ago, Texas was going through a losing season. Baylor and TCU looked like the top of the Big12 and looked set to keep their control of the conference for years to come. FSU was still the clear ACC leader for years to come; it would have been laughable to predict that the incoming freshman would see through the first season without a bowl game in 36 years. Poor UAB stopped being a football team. It would have been insane to predict that they'd be winning a conference 4 years later. The miracle that Nick Saban pulls off is keeping his program consistently good, even when assistants change and other coaches get hot. Saban's Alabama being good is the only worthwhile prediction you can make this far out, and even that won't last (probably) too much longer.
