7/16/18
- Trump gains 6 points in Gallup
- Scott gains 6 points in Gravis
- Democratic senator highly vulnerable in state Clinton won by double digits in Gravis

Bad day for Democrats.

The numbers might well be accurate right now, but the undecided voters are almost certainly almost all going to break for Menendez.

I'd expect something like a 54-44 victory for him honestly.

I think Republicans ought to take this poll very seriously and start pumping millions and divert resources to New Jersey in order to win this seat.

Don't need to. Hugin is self-funding.

Menendez should not run for reelection.

If the poll numbers continue to be this way heading into late-September, they'll force Menendez to drop out/retire and Florio or Fulop will be the Democratic replacement.

Ah, suddenly Gravis is trash again.

Gravis has pretty much always been considered trash by the majority of posters here. They have the ability to put out believable numbers. For example, a Nelson +4 atm is way more believable than this junk, lol.

In a more serious mode, Tom Kean Jr. was ahead of Menendez in the polls in 2006 as late as the beginning of October and by as much as 5 points.
At the end of the day Menendez won by 10.

You know, if a year ago someone had asked me what the odds were that Democrats would be leading by a greater margin in a TN-SEN poll than a NJ-SEN poll this year, I would have said 0%.

Well if this race seems really so competitive, then the Republicans maybe should focus more on New Jersey.

The NJ media market is disgustingly expensive. If we get some decent quality polls backing this poll up, i'd say yes. But theres a reason NJ is famous for being fools gold for republicans.

TN, TX and WY (strong D candidates) before NJ and NV (weak D candidates) imo Smiley

Needless to say, this race is Safe D and would have been Safe D even in a Clinton midterm, lol. NJ isn’t sending a Republican to the Senate, and Gravis is a very, very bad pollster.

Any poll with Trump at 47% approval is total trash.

This poll is hilarious. No way is it accurate. I will say though, Menendez needs to just try and give the slightest bit of a crap about the race. He won't lose, but it would be beneficial for him to not end up winning by an embarrassingly small margin for a New Jersey Democrat. Hugin is already running ads, making himself look like the lesser evil, when that just isn't true. Menendez needs to run a few ads here and there that emphasize the importance of keeping Democratic numbers in the Senate. He should be fine if he does that. There are plenty of Democrat hacks in this state, like myself that will vote for him regardless. They just need to be reminded to because it's a pretty easy expectation that Menendez will coast again, as he always does. I don't know if he will heed my advice though. I will agree with some other posters, in that I really would have preferred if he just didn't run for re-election.

This is probably true, but I would much rather Menendez drop out and we actually get a decent Dem as the nominee.

Still Likely D, but this could be the first NJ race in a while that 1)Chris Christie isn't running in, and 2) doesn't end up at roughly +15 Dem.

Yeah, a poll that says "Menendez is up by 2 among an electorate that voted for Clinton by 2" when NJ went to Clinton by 15 is not even worth considering. All it tells us is that Menendez will win by anywhere from 10-20 points.

In my opinion, the more moral and less corrupt candidate should take precedence over the more corrupt and less moral one, even if that candidate is at odds with your political viewpoints.

My guess is Menendez is further ahead than this poll indicates... But Menendez should definitely take the potential danger he could be in serious... and run a campaign heavily focus on rebuilding his image and helping voters get past his recent trial etc.

Menendez would be in jail now if SCOTUS didn't de facto legalize corruption in order to save a Republican governor.

Agreed. Any Republican would be a rubber stamp and enabler for this corrupt, immoral and  treasonous administration and must be defeated

This is something to watch over the next months, but I don't see him losing in this climate.

Too bad though his primary opponent Lisa McCormick didn't defeat him.
