VOTE NO ON BIG GOVERNMENT
VOTE NO ON THE ELECTION AMENDMENTS

My fellow Southerners –

VOTE HERE: https://talkelections.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=548835.0

The Southern government has proposed a constitutional amendment which would impose the following on the citizens of the Southern Region:

  • Abolishes the right to recall public officials

  • Abolishes the right for citizens to propose constitutional amendments, and would vest this power solely in the legislature

  • Abolishes regular-scheduled referendums, moving referendums to occur whichever weekend after the legislature passes an amendment, instead of at the end of the month like normal, preventing regular citizens from engaging with our democracy unless they are constantly plugged in and paying attention

  • Attacks the right to petition the government, increasing the amount of necessary signatures for a referendum on a given law from 7 to 12

  • Loosens activity requirements, allowing our region's governor to go offline for 2 entire weeks without consequence

On top of year long terms for elected officials and unilateral ability to amend the constitution by the legislature with a unanimous vote.

These are probably the last regional level elections the South will have barring a massive shift.

They do have to continue holding elections, per Article VII, Section 3 of the Federal Constitution:
Quote
The Republic of Atlasia shall guarantee to every Region in this Union a republican form of government
(of course if they legally secede then who knows)

However, you are right that such elections will be pretty meaningless given their lack of frequency and the fact that SNP holds a strong plurality (almost an absolute majority) in both subregions.
