She wants to be President, according to her mother:

https://nypost.com/2018/06/27/ocasio-cortez-wants-to-be-president-mom-says/

She unseated the fourth most powerful Democrat and likely Speaker of the House, anything is possible.

Well, she is young, and has plenty of time to build a political portfolio. Who knows what happens in 20 years?

Sadly, in 20 years she'll probably have a trail of baggage as long as her voting record and won't be new or inspiring any more. One can hope it doesn't turn out that way but it turns out that way more often than not.

Bernie has been in congress 27 years, and the anti Bernie people are stuck with inane attacks about some essay he wrote 45 years ago.

For the last time: putting 'Democratic' in front of 'Socialist' simply means 'not a Commie' - it has never denoted anything more specific. In English the term was popularised by Orwell and that's all he ever meant by it.

'Social Democrat' is a term with a much more complex history, but the main thing to note is that from the 1920s onwards the old term for parliamentary Marxist ('Social Democrat') had come to mean the same thing in most European countries as 'Democratic Socialist', as all the members of such parties who believed in Revolution had joined their respective Communist Party. In countries where the dominant socialist tradition was not Marxist, then the term has sometimes been used (but only after 1945) to refer to the right-wing of socialist parties and of right-wing splinter groups from those parties, and this is where the confusion comes from.* If Wikipedia, the dictionary or your PolySky class informs you otherwise they are ignorant and incorrect.

*But note that 'Democratic Socialist' has also been used in this way at times: consider the Gaitskellite ginger group the 'Campaign for Democratic Socialism' in the 1960s, or the Italian Partito Socialista Democratico Italiano, usually referred to in English as the 'Social Democrats' even though a direct translation would be 'Democratic Socialists'.

"Democratic socialism" is a tautology, since socialism is inherently democratic. Anyone who says they want to achieve socialism through non-democratic means is simply not a true socialist.

Sorry if this has been answered already, but is Crowley still going to be on the ballot under the WFP and WEP tickets?

All this arguing about definitions is inane, if contemporary American leftists want to call themselves democratic socialists, then let them, even if it doesn't match perfectly with its usage elsewhere. Words, especially for a field in which people have as diverse opinions as politics, are allowed to have multiple definitions. Just look at how many things liberalism has meant to people in different times and places.

Fits in with the Caudillo/ Latam populist archetype in the region.

> Left-Communist

> There's no meaningful distinction between democratic socialism, and social democracy, and left-nationalism, and "populism", &etc. They all constitute the left-wing of Capital.

Anyone have an interactive map of results

I have this:

Does not seem to be a particularly strong racial correlation here.  Even in some of the most Puerto Rican parts of the Bronx, Crowley did decently.

This is my community. Ocasio did well everywhere. Still getting 1/3 or so of the vote in Crowley's strongest areas.

Ocasio actually grew up on Westchester, apparently. She lived in the Bronx in her toddler years.

So on the left-hand map, who is who?  What's the color scheme?  I notice it got cut off.  Is Crowley in green, with Ocasio in purple, or is it the other way around?

No, she was born in the Bronx, at age five she moved to Westchester into a tiny home where her mother spent her work days cleaning other people’s houses. Alexandria commuted all school years to the Bronx. Living in a county with high median income =/= being wealthy. What is your point?

Seriously, a lot of right-wingers like Cardillo and Hannity are embarrassing themselves trying to attack her.

Page Six actually ran a pathetic article attacking her in which they interviewed one of her previous co workers at a restaurant who still holds a grudge from when Ocasio was 19 when she didn't give her her fair share of the tips that day.

I really dislike her, but that's kind of stupid lol.
