Representative Joe Crowley’s primary opponent, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, recently went viral with her ad. She’s running to Crawley’s left and attacking him for not living in the district.

https://twitter.com/ocasio2018/status/1001795660524457985?s=21

Crowley has been taking the primary challenge very seriously, but his loss would be very similar to Dave Brat’s upset win in VA-07 several years ago. Joe Crawley is a part of Democratic House leadership and Pelosi’s likely successor as Speaker/Minority House Leader, so his loss would send shockwaves through the entire Democratic Party.

There's one way it isn't as similar: it isn't as machine driven in the Old Dominion...

Crowley apparently complained that his opponent focuses too much on race and that he can't help. Which if true seems rather unwise to do in a district that is only 25% white.

Going viral and getting votes in the primary are two very different things.

Dennis Kucinich agrees.

Do voters actually care if their U.S. representative even lives in their district or not? I feel like that line of attack never really works. Another state, yes, but another district?

There’s a line of thinking that it hurt Ossoff, but I think there was a number of other things that damaged him in aggregate

It's more so that Crowley lives in Virginia, rather than in New York. His children go to schools in Arlington too, and ACO has been hitting him on that. It's quite a bit different from say, representing CA-45 but actually living in CA-48.

I got the 25% from the American Fact Finder. Of course it might be outdated.

They describe Arlington as a "leafy Washington suburb" where his three kids attend the "community's nationally renowned schools".

LMAO. I know his daughter, though I won't say her name. But I never connected the dots before...

I hope he loses. He doesn't even think the schools there are good enough for his children to go to. I would personally be offended if he were my representative. Him being white makes it look even worse. He comes across as a latte liberal.

hilarious!

This guy has always seemed like a hack, I have no sympathy for Democrats that voted for Iraq losing their seats.

While I don't care much for Crowley, I can't see him losing.

She's a grade above me and I've talked to her twice.

Never got the impression she was the daughter of a congressman. I also know Dick Lugar's grandson, was a camp counselor for Kellyanne Conway's son and Ben Jealous' son. And Roy Blunt's son, who is a total jackass. F**k Charlie Blunt.

Wait Roy Blunt’s son is that young? Uh...

I was mostly just excited to knock off a very bad and boring leadership candidate but now that i actually saw AOC's ad she seems really awesome.

I wouldn’t count her out. Crowley is not doing himself any favors, women have been doing great, and Cantor shows that leadership isn’t invulnerable.
