ELECTION NIGHT: NEW HAMPSHIRE

Good evening. It's February 12, 2024, and the polls have just closed in New Hampshire's primaries. Let's look at the polls and the midnight voting results.

Feb. 10 2024 New Hampshire Polling: Democratic Primary
Sen. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY): 25% (+3)
Mayor Andrew Yang (D-NY): 24% (+5)
Vice Pres. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN): 24% (+3)
Sec. of HUD Pete Buttigieg (D-IN): 9% (-2)
Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ): 5% (+2)
Amb. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI): 2% (+/- 0)
Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA): 1% (-1)
Undecided: 10%

Feb. 10 2024 New Hampshire Polling: Republican Primary
Sen. Mike Crapo (R-ID): 28% (+10)
Fmr. Amb. Nikki Haley (R-SC): 27% (+3)
Fmr. Vice Pres. Mike Pence (R-IN): 16% (-2)
Fmr. Gov. Charlie Baker (R-MA): 16% (+3)
Undecided: 13%

Looks like it'll be another close race tonight, folks.

Dixville Notch Vote, Democratic Primary
Klobuchar: 2
Yang: 1
Ocasio-Cortez: 1

Dixville Notch Vote, Republican Primary
Baker: 1

7:42 PM

New Hampshire Democratic Primary (18% in)
Sen. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY): 27.8%
Mayor Andrew Yang (D-NY): 27.1%
Vice Pres. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN): 26.8%
Sec. of HUD Pete Buttigieg (D-IN): 8.7%
Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ): 7.0%
Amb. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI): 1.8%
Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA): 0.8%

Gavin Newsom is still standing strong, refusing to drop out. However his numbers here are poor. Yang might manage to edge this one out, not great for Ocasio-Cortez as she hopes to have more than one early victory ahead of Super Tuesday.

New Hampshire Republican Primary: (18% in)
Fmr. Amb. Nikki Haley (R-SC): 33.1%
Sen. Mike Crapo (R-ID): 31.8%
Fmr. Gov. Charlie Baker (R-MA): 18.7%
Fmr. Vice Pres. Mike Pence (R-IN): 16.4%

not good news for VP Pence here, it's looking like a number of his supporters may have moved to Haley. She's overpreforming right now as is Baker, though his best margins are in communities like Nashua that border Massachusetts. Those are mostly in.

8:38 PM

We've just got word that Mike Pence has dropped out of the race. He hasn't indicated who he will endorse, if anyone, though all signs point to him dropping out to stop Crapo. Gavin Newsom also announced he will drop out tonight, seemingly not confident in his chances in Nevada. He endorsed Klobuchar.

New Hampshire Democratic Primary (41% in)
Sen. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY): 28.5%
Mayor Andrew Yang (D-NY): 27.8%
Vice Pres. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN): 26.4%
Sec. of HUD Pete Buttigieg (D-IN): 8.1%
Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ): 6.8%
Amb. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI): 1.7%
Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA): 0.7%

New Hampshire Republican Primary: (41% in)
Fmr. Amb. Nikki Haley (R-SC): 32.5%
Sen. Mike Crapo (R-ID): 32.1%
Fmr. Gov. Charlie Baker (R-MA): 17.8%
Fmr. Vice Pres. Mike Pence (R-IN): 17.6%

10:05 PM

With a surge of rural support, we feel confident to call this one: Andrew Yang has won the New Hampshire primary. Seems like his campaigning with Governor Marchand paid off. It's still too close for Republicans however.

New Hampshire Democratic Primary (89% in)
Mayor Andrew Yang (D-NY): 29.4% ✔
Sen. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY): 26.9%
Vice Pres. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN): 26.5%
Sec. of HUD Pete Buttigieg (D-IN): 7.6%
Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ): 7.1%
Amb. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI): 1.7%
Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA): 0.8%

New Hampshire Republican Primary: (82% in)
Fmr. Amb. Nikki Haley (R-SC): 33.5%
Sen. Mike Crapo (R-ID): 33.1%
Fmr. Vice Pres. Mike Pence (R-IN): 17.5%
Fmr. Gov. Charlie Baker (R-MA): 15.9%

11:58 PM

With only a smattering of precincts left we can call the Republican Primary, where Nikki Haley has won, albeit with a small margin.

New Hampshire Republican Primary: (99% in)
Fmr. Amb. Nikki Haley (R-SC): 33.3% ✔
Sen. Mike Crapo (R-ID): 32.9%
Fmr. Vice Pres. Mike Pence (R-IN): 17.4%
Fmr. Gov. Charlie Baker (R-MA): 16.4%

New Hampshire Democratic Primary (99% in)
Mayor Andrew Yang (D-NY): 28.7% ✔
Sen. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY): 27.7%
Vice Pres. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN): 26.7%
Sec. of HUD Pete Buttigieg (D-IN): 7.7%
Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ): 7.0%
Amb. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI): 1.6%
Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA): 0.6%

New Hampshire Democratic Primary (100% in w/absentees) 24 Delegates
Mayor Andrew Yang (D-NY): 28.9%, 7 Delegates ✔
Sen. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY): 27.5%. 7 Delegates
Vice Pres. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN): 26.9%, 6 Delegates
Sec. of HUD Pete Buttigieg (D-IN): 7.6%, 2 Delegates
Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ): 6.9%, 2 Delegates
Amb. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI): 1.6%, 0 Delegates
Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA): 0.6%, 0 Delegates

ELECTION NIGHT: NEVADA

Good evening America. Tonight is the Nevada primary for Democrats, as well as the Republican Primary in South Carolina and Nevada.

Remember, DNC reforms mean that Delegates are proportionally awarded in their primary. In Nevada, it's also Proportional with no threshold. South Carolina, however, is winner-take-all.

South Carolina Polls should be closed... now.

8:24 PM

We've got a pretty large sample of precincts reporting now, and we see a very close race.

South Carolina Republican Primary (27% in), FPTP
Fmr. Amb. Nikki Haley (R-SC): 48.6%
Sen. Mike Crapo (R-ID): 48.1%
Fmr. Gov. Charlie Baker (R-MA): 3.3%

Looks like Trump's endorsement of Crapo has boosted him in the south. Haley should be pretty worried by this.

9:58 PM

Hold on just a second there, we have a call from South Carolina. Nikki Haley has won the Republican primary.

South Carolina Republican Primary (72% in), FPTP
Fmr. Amb. Nikki Haley (R-SC): 50.5% ✔, 50 Delegates
Sen. Mike Crapo (R-ID): 45.7%
Fmr. Gov. Charlie Baker (R-MA): 3.8%

More Republican suburbs came in, these areas backing Haley by a good margin. Baker also did relatively well in these areas, but he still has very little impact on this state. Crapo has been doing phenomenally in rural areas, but we don't see enough of those areas left for him to win. The remaining rural areas are in the black belt, which we expect to go for Haley.

Nevada will be closing shortly.

10:21 PM

We have the first returns from Nevada.

Nevada Democratic Primary (4% in), Proportional
Sen. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY): 42.1%
Mayor Andrew Yang (D-NY): 19.1%
Vice Pres. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN): 18.6%
Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ): 11.8%
Sec. of HUD Pete Buttigieg (D-IN): 7.3%
Amb. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI): 1.1%

Wow, quite a rout by Ocasio-Cortez. It's still too early to call with the small amount of precincts in, but Klobuchar is also having quite a bad showing.

Nevada Republican Primary (5% in), Proportional
Sen. Mike Crapo (R-ID): 45.2%
Fmr. Amb. Nikki Haley (R-SC): 44.6%
Fmr. Gov. Charlie Baker (R-MA): 10.3%

For Republicans, it's much closer right now. Rural areas are backing Crapo by large margins, but suburbs are delivering decent results for Haley. If that trend continues, she should win this state.

11:01 PM

We're calling Nevada's Democratic Primary: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wins with extremely high support from Latinos. Klobuchar is doing extremely poorly with that group, polling 4th among them behind Yang and Sinema. We're also getting news that Secretary Buttigieg has just announced that he is dropping out of the race.

Nevada Democratic Primary (29% in), Proportional
Sen. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY): 43.9% ✔
Mayor Andrew Yang (D-NY): 19.3%
Vice Pres. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN): 17.1%
Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ): 11.6%
Sec. of HUD Pete Buttigieg (D-IN): 7.1%
Amb. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI): 1.0%

Nevada Republican Primary (28% in), Proportional
Fmr. Amb. Nikki Haley (R-SC): 45.8%
Sen. Mike Crapo (R-ID): 43.3%
Fmr. Gov. Charlie Baker (R-MA): 10.9%

12:19 AM

...and I just heard this, we're going to call Nevada for Haley.

Nevada Republican Primary (62% in), Proportional
Fmr. Amb. Nikki Haley (R-SC): 47.1%✔
Sen. Mike Crapo (R-ID): 41.7%
Fmr. Gov. Charlie Baker (R-MA): 11.2%

Nevada Democratic Primary (61% in), Proportional
Sen. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY): 44.1% ✔
Mayor Andrew Yang (D-NY): 19.4%
Vice Pres. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN): 16.8%
Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ): 11.9%
Sec. of HUD Pete Buttigieg (D-IN): 6.8%
Amb. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI): 1.0%

Final Results

South Carolina Republican Primary (100% in), FPTP, 50 Delegates
Fmr. Amb. Nikki Haley (R-SC): 50.0% ✔, 50 Delegates
Sen. Mike Crapo (R-ID): 46.3%
Fmr. Gov. Charlie Baker (R-MA): 3.7%

Nevada Republican Primary (100% in), Proportional, 25 Delegates
Fmr. Amb. Nikki Haley (R-SC): 46.7%✔, 12 Delegates
Sen. Mike Crapo (R-ID): 42.3%, 10 Delegates
Fmr. Gov. Charlie Baker (R-MA): 11.0%, 3 Delegates

Nevada Democratic Primary (100% in), Proportional, 36 Delegates
Sen. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY): 43.9% ✔, 16 Delegates

Vice Pres. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN): 16.9%, 6 Delegates

Sec. of HUD Pete Buttigieg (D-IN): 6.8%, 3 Delegates
Amb. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI): 1.0%, 0 Delegates

Sen. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY): 1 state, 39 Delegates
Vice Pres. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN): 1 state, 28 Delegates
Mayor Andrew Yang (D-NY): 1 state, 17 Delegates
Sec. of HUD Pete Buttigieg (D-IN): 11 Delegates (Endorsed Sinema)
Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ): 9 Delegates

ELECTION NIGHT: SOUTH CAROLINA DEM.

Welcome to the coverage of the South Carolina Democratic Primary. Polls have just closed across the state. Let's take a look at the most recent polls...

Feb. 22 2024 South Carolina Polling: Democratic Primary
Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ): 29% (+13)
Sen. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY): 25% (+8)
Vice Pres. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN): 21% (+1)
Mayor Andrew Yang (D-NY): 14% (+8)
Amb. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI): 2% (+1)
Undecided: 9%

Looks very good for Sinema, but we'll have to see if she can win over those undecideds. Even if she wins, it might not be enough for her to get the momentum. Need we remember what happened with Biden's win in South Carolina.

7:34 PM

South Carolina Democratic Primary (28% in) Proportional, 63 Delegates
Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ): 33.9%
Sen. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY): 28.4%
Vice Pres. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN): 19.7%
Mayor Andrew Yang (D-NY): 15.6%
Amb. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI): 2.4%

Klobuchar is underpreforming once again. She's been having issues with minority support for a while now, but both here and in Nevada, it shows.

8:44 PM

Hold that thought, we're going to take a look at the South Carolina results, because we're about to call it: Kyrsten Sinema has won the South Carolina primary.

South Carolina Democratic Primary (61% in) Proportional, 63 Delegates
Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ): 35.5% ✔
Sen. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY): 27.9%
Vice Pres. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN): 18.8%
Mayor Andrew Yang (D-NY): 15.5%
Amb. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI): 2.3%

And Amy Klobuchar's campaign is dealt a huge blow with this loss. She's actually in danger of falling behind Yang here. However, we have heard that Klobuchar is going to stay in the race, though it's a narrow path for her from here.

10:01 PM

An update on the South Carolina race, Klobuchar has just fallen behind Yang with a large number of returns from the black belt.

South Carolina Democratic Primary (88% in) Proportional, 63 Delegates
Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ): 36.3% ✔,
Sen. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY): 28.3%
Mayor Andrew Yang (D-NY): 16.5%
Vice Pres. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN): 16.4%
Amb. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI): 2.5%

As I stated earlier, Klobuchar is having a really tough time winning over minorities. Our exit poll showed her in 4th with those voters, only ahead of Gabbard. Not a good sign at all.

12:03 AM

South Carolina Democratic Primary (100% in) Proportional, 54 Delegates
Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ): 35.8% ✔, 19 Delegates
Sen. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY): 29.4%, 15 Delegates
Mayor Andrew Yang (D-NY): 16.3%, 9 Delegates
Vice Pres. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN): 16.2%, 9 Delegates
Amb. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI): 2.3%, 1 Delegate

Sen. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY): 1 state, 54 Delegates
Vice Pres. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN): 1 state, 37 Delegates
Mayor Andrew Yang (D-NY): 1 state, 28 Delegates
Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ): 1 state, 28 Delegates
Sec. of HUD Pete Buttigieg (D-IN): 11 Delegates (Endorsed Sinema)
Amb. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI): 1 Delegate
Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA): 1 Delegate (Endorsed Klobuchar)

Feb. 28 2024 National Polling: Democratic Primary
Sen. Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY): 31%
Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ): 21%
Vice Pres. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN): 16%
Mayor Andrew Yang (D-NY): 15%
Amb. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI): 2%

I accidentally added unpledged and pledged delegates together, I'll fix that in the next update. DNC reforms after Bernie's win included scrapping superdelegates altogether.

I have literally never posted a comment on this timeline until now and I feel a pressing urge to rectify that by way of a simple proclamation.
