Declaration from Stockholm Palace

Recognizing the abhorrence of slavery and its incompatibility with the Christian faith of his nation, His Majesty King Gustav III will commit to sending representatives to a congress in Vienna to determine the best course of action to at last end the terrible slave trade and the practice of slavery in general.

Moreover, His Majesty King Gustav III would like to reaffirm the Kingdom of Scandinavia's commitment to peace with its neighbors the Kingdom of Prussia and the Russian Empire. The King would like to express his willingness to foster closer ties with his neighbors in the interests of a lasting peace in Central and Northern Europe.

Finally, His Majesty King Gustav III sends his heartfelt condolences to King Fredrick William II over the loss of his uncle. King Fredrick, now widely titled "The Great," was a staunch enemy of His Majesty's father King Adolf Frederick and of Sweden. Yet, with King Fredrick's passing, Europe has undoubtedly lost a giant. As such, the Kingdom of Scandinavia will send representatives to attend any official funeral arrangements which the Prussian government should see fit to hold.

Statement from the Court of His Majesty King Gustav III

Recognizing the need for friendly diplomatic ties between the states of central and northern Europe, particularly in these troubled times, His Majesty King Gustav III and His Majesty King Frederick William II have agreed to the betrothal of Princess Anna of Scandinavia and Prince Henry of Prussia.

His Majesty King Gustav III is overjoyed at the match and hopes that it will aid in the continuation of peace in central and northern Europe. His Majesty the King is confident that closer relations between the Kingdom of Scandinavia and the Kingdom of Prussia are in the best interests of both nations.

Due to the young age of the betrothed, the marriage will not take place for several years, but the Scandinavian and Prussian courts are confident that the marriage will be personally and diplomatically fruitful.

Declaration from Stockholm Palace

Scandinavia will not forget Russian kindness in our time of need, and can only hope to repay that kindness should our Russian brothers find themselves in a similarly precarious situation in the future. Emperor Paul, and by extension the Russian nation have become shining beacons of hope for Europe in this terrible winter of ours.

It is abundantly clear from Emperor Paul's actions that he is a modern and just ruler, and His Majesty King Gustav III looks forward to close and friendly ties with the Russian state in the future.

Statement from the Court of Gustav III
His Majesty King Gustav III wishes to inform his people, and the courts of Europe, that Princess Catherine, hereafter to assume the title of Crown Princess, will be officially designated as heir apparent of the Kingdom of Scandinavia and all of its oversees possessions.

His Majesty has no doubt that Crown Princess will serve her country admirably once her tenure as monarch begins. Europe, especially as of late, has been dominated by strong queens and empresses, and Crown Princess Catherine will soon have a chance to prove herself and establish her own legacy among the storied histories of the Empress Maria Teresa and Queen Isabella.

As befitting of her new station, the Court of His Majesty Gustav III will now entertain fitting marriage proposals for the Crown Princess. Any houses of note (including NPC), will be dutifully considered and a decision will be rendered once an acceptable match is found.

Statement on the Russian Assault
What we have witnessed in the past few weeks is nothing short of an attack on the European order and the peace which we have striven to maintain over the past years. The courts of Emperor Paul and Emperor Joseph II have allowed their ambitions to plunge Europe into a war the scope of which we have not seen for a quarter of a century. It is now clear beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Russian Empire will not cease in their aggression until they have ravaged Finland, subjugated its people, and crushed any who dare oppose them. It is also clear that Emperor Joseph will not rest until the free states of the German League are prostrate before the Habsburg Crown.

As such, the Kingdom of Scandinavia and her allies are prepared to fight until the bitter end. We will not be cowed by the violent outbursts and directives of two rulers who are so intent on domination that they are willing to squander any chance for peace. We will not allow our Finnish citizens to be placed under Russian domination and serfdom where their faith will be persecuted and their livelihoods destroyed. We will not allow the Baltic Sea to be transformed into a Russian lake. If Helsinki falls, we will fight. If Turku falls, we will fight. If, heaven forbid, Stockholm itself is sacked and razed, and the Black Eagle flies from Royal Palace, we still will fight on.

I would rather find myself hanging from a gibbet than to surrender one inch of Scandinavian land to the mad emperor in St. Petersburg. If Emperor Paul so desires war, he will have it, and if he wishes to subdue this great kingdom, he will need to be prepared to have soldiers land in Reykjavik itself, and even then we would fight on from Greenland! This will not be an easy war, but it is a just one, and I have no doubt that we shall triumph.

Crown Princess Catherine of Scandinavia and Crown Prince Frederick of Denmark Betrothed

In these troubled times, King Gustav is heartened to announce the betrothal of Crown Princess Catherine of Scandinavia and Crown Prince Frederick of Denmark. His Majesty commends King Christian for his initiative and earnestness in proposing this betrothal. Both monarchs are confident that this match will herald the return of friendly relations between their kingdoms.

As a sign of his goodwill, King Christian has also committed to supply the Kingdom of Scandinavia with whatever surplus grain his kingdom is able to produce. This humanitarian gesture will be long remembered in Scandinavia, and our citizens will look with thanks to Copenhagen now and forever.

King Gustav looks forward with joy to the returned friendship between Scandinavia and Denmark, and hopes that King Christian’s actions of rapprochement will act as an example for all of Europe in these increasingly fraught times.

Statement from Stockholm Palace on the Icelandic and Food Crises

King Gustav is devastated to hear of the death and terror which has befallen Iceland, and wishes to assure the citizens of that proud island that mainland Scandinavia has not forgotten them. His Majesty is pleased to announce the following steps are being taken in order to alleviate the crisis.

I. The Icelandic Relief Company (IRC), will be created as a state owned venture to fund the rebuilding of the island.
   A. Private, church, and state donations are encouraged.
        1. Those private individuals who pledge wealth to the relief of Iceland will be granted a tax subsidy dependent on the size of their donation at the end of 1784.
   B. The Kingdom of Scandinavia will levy a one time tax of 1/20th above regular levels in order to provide the initial funding for the IRC.

II. Individuals displaced by the Russian invasion of Finland will be offered a subsidized settlement in Iceland.
   A. The state will take on the traveling expenses of all displaced persons relocating to the island, and cover the travelling expenses of up to six head of cows, sheep, pigs, goats, or other large farm animals.

III. Displaced individuals settling on vacant land in Iceland will be able to settle without payment, provided they register their land with the local government in Reykjavik. Non-displaced individuals will be able to settle for a much reduced price on vacant land which will be paid again to the local government.
   A. Funds raised from land purchases will go towards purchasing new farm animals for particularly badly hurt farmers who will make their petitions for state provided animals in Reykjavik.

IV. 1,500 men will be raised and transported to Iceland for peacekeeping duties. Further, 500 new bureaucrats and state functionaries will sail with the garrison force in order to aid the local government with new state burdens.

King Gustav is also pleased to announce that a satisfactory resolution to the current food crisis gripping the kingdom is close to fruition. Owing both to Danish aid, and ongoing negotiations with His Majesty King George of Great Britain, bread will soon pack the market stalls of Stockholm, Oslo, and Helsinki. King Gustav is confident that Scandinavia will weather the storm of famine and enter 1785 with renewed strength and vigor.

Statement from Stockholm Palace

And tell me, why should the rulers of Europe trust a man who violated a non-aggression pact the moment it was signed, and practically disregarded the betrothal intended to solidify that pact? The so called "Emperor" Paul cares nothing for European peace if it obstructs his twisted view of Russian glory.

The Russian Tsar plunged Europe into war without a second thought, and he has the gall to accuse the Kingdoms of Prussia and Scandinavia of fomenting this war? Clearly Paul has lost his senses, his wit and his ability to properly rule.

As my allies have stated, I am willing to entertain the King of France's proposal and enter into negotiations. It is imperative that this unnecessary war is brought to a speedy conclusion before more lives are lost.

Statement from Stockholm Palace

His Majesty King Gustav is delighted to announce the Treaty of Copenhagen with his counterpart His Majesty King Christian of Denmark. The rapprochement between our two realms, begun by the betrothal of Crown Princess Catherine and Crown Prince Frederick, brings joy to both our peoples as the long standing rivalry between Stockholm and Copenhagen finally draws to a close.

His Majesty hopes that the cooperation and friendship displayed between two such ancient and bitter rivals can serve as a harbinger of a lasting peace in Europe and the world.

Statement from Stockholm Palace on Nationalist Unrest

Recognizing that to be Scandinavian does not simply mean to be Swedish, and following the example set by President Kosciuszko, the Norwegian, Finnish, and Icelandic languages, whose speakers together constitute a significant and vital part of the realm, are designated as new state languages of the Kingdom of Scandinavia along with Swedish.

All official documents will be issued in the four state languages. Furthermore, while the court will still tend to be conducted in Swedish, as it is His Majesty’s mother tongue, His Majesty will begin an earnest and sincere effort to acquire a level of competency in the three new official languages of the realm.

Moreover, new efforts will be undertaken for the broader inclusion of Icelanders, Norwegians, and Finns into the central state bureaucracy to ensure that voices from the entire kingdom are heard in Stockholm.

Finns, Norwegians and Icelanders fought and died for the Kingdom of Scandinavia in the last years and it is long overdue that they are afforded the same privileges and opportunities as Swedes.

Russo-Scandinavian Non-Aggression Pact Announced

Both His Majesty King Gustav of Scandinavia and His Imperial Highness Emperor Paul of Russia were much saddened at the sudden outbreak of hostilities between their two nations, even more so that the war seemed little related to the issues facing the Kingdom of Scandinavia and the Empire of Russia. As such, both monarchs have agreed to a resumption of the Russo-Scandinavian Non-Aggression Pact.

Statement from Stockholm Palace

His Majesty King Gustav is quite relieved to hear that His Majesty King Frederick William was unharmed in the recent attempt on his life and would like to offer Scandinavia's services in the investigation into the heinous plot.

The King is also most disheartened by the recent tensions between his friends and allies in Berlin and Copenhagen and urges calm and restraint for all parties involved in the matter. Negotiations are yet underway to resolve the crisis peacefully, and any rash actions may contribute to the outbreak of general war in Europe.

His Majesty would also like to remind the Prussian government that Denmark is a sovereign state, and as such they are entitled to leave the German League freely. Any attempt to infringe on Danish territorial integrity within Europe will not be tolerated by the Kingdom of Scandinavia and will warrant a firm Scandinavian response in line with her obligations outlined in the Treaty of Copenhagen.

The King has no doubt that the Danish question can be resolved diplomatically and looks forward to further negotiations in 1788.

Joint Declaration from Stockholm, Constantinople, and Warsaw

Having watched as Tsar Paul once mercilessly attacked by the Kingdom of Scandinavia and the Sublime Porte, without so much as a diplomatic message, both Sultan Abdulhamid and King Gustav forgave the Russians, for one offence is certainly forgivable, and an honorable peace had been concluded.

And yet, Tsar Paul betrayed our trust and has shown himself to be a dishonorable and craven leader. He has once again mercilessly assailed the Ottoman Empire whose men are bravely resisting. It has become abundantly clear that the Despot of Moscow cannot be counted upon to maintain European stability and his transgressions and crimes, miriad as they are, cannot and will not go unpunished.

As such, both King Gustav and President Kosciuszko have no choice but to announce that they will stand with Sultan Abdulhamid and that a state of war now exists between the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Kingdom of Scandinavia and the Russian Empire.
