I've never seriously thought about moving from the US. However, if Trump gets re-elected in 2020, then I would seriously consider moving to Canada (I know, I know). I have some family in Canada and Canada has many benefits that we don't have here in America.

Also, conservatives in Canada are usually not as crazy as conservatives here in America.

Am I being stupid or not? I don't want to leave America but I don't think that I could stomach 4 more years of Trump.

Not all that much, I've already considered the possibility of living in the UK or Australia when I'm older. It isn't for political reasons, but I just find the idea of living abroad intriguing.

An actual job offer in that country.

- Winning a huge sum in the lottery and then buying a lakeside cabin somewhere in the Canadian Yukon Territory maybe.

- The further Islamisation of Austria by uncontrolled mass immigration from backwards countries such as Afghanistan, Pakistan or African countries - to the point where Muslim fundies have a majority in the country (rather unlikely if measures against such counterproductive developments are taken, like it is the case right now).

- A huge financial/economic crash which leads to unemployment and a wipe-out of most of my assets.

- A hot woman from abroad.

- The impending impact of a medium-sized asteroid in Central Europe.

A better job/life than LA. There's nothing keeping me here necessarily. Honestly, I'd be more likely to move to Mexico City or Hong Kong or Madrid or London or Sydney than most places in the USA. I just don't have any reason to move right now.

If I had a good job offer, I'd certainly consider it. Also, being able to speak the language is important, and climate.

I'm definitely moving out of my current university town if I graduate because all the action is in Amsterdam, even though I'm not looking forward to moving to Amsterdam as long as the GreenLeft-led Pyongang coalition is in charge. Amsterdam-Zuid should separate and merge with Amstelveen Smiley. I imagine I could move abroad if I received a good job offer. My English isn't as terrible as it was (thanks Atlas!) and my German is decent (speaking German still is hard, but I can easily read German articles or watch German television).

Depends. Either

1) an authoritarian government takes power in the USA,
2) I am wanted by the police, or...
3) I get bored of where I am/what I'm doing and decide to move on.

Australia, NZ, the Caribbean, or anywhere in Latin America would be my preferred options.

Significant Other would be a pretty easy push for me, although it depends on the country. Western Europe / Iceland / Canada would be a very easy sell, 3rd world country / China / Russia would be a very tough sell. I'd say the easiest places for a SO to convince me to move right now is Canada, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.

Honestly, I'm the kind of person that leaves a SO to move to another country because I received a good job offer. I'm sorry, but I'm definitely not going to move to another country for love if I have the feeling I'm not going to find a good job there, and I've heard that people who move to another country because their SO gets a good job offer usually have a hard time adjusting or finding a job. Hell will freeze over before I accept being outearned by anyone I personally know (including any potential future gf/wife) Tongue. I don't think I could handle being outearned by my SO, not because I'm a raging sexist but because I'm criminally competitive.

Means, language competence, and and time. I wouldn’t want to live abroad during child-tearing years (assuming a hypothetical significant other isn’t herself foreign). But before (early-mid twenties) or after (fifties?) would be fine, assuming I had a well-paying job doing what I wanted and serving my ideals.

I actually disagree with you on that. I've definitely thought about temporarily moving for a year or two when my child is in the age 12-16 range or so. I think he (and most others) would love it, and be a better person for it.

Perhaps understandable if temporary—and I’d want them to be multilingual regardless—but I wouldn’t want my kids to be entirely alien in what I am hypothesizing as “their” country.
