Queen Elizabeth II is already 92 years old and it looks like she is likely to reach a triple-digit age.

Prince Charles (69), No. 1 on line of succession
Prince William (35), No. 2 on line of succession

The Prince Charles, Prince of Wales will be her and Prince Philip's successor.

When Philip dies, Charles will be Duke of Edinburgh

When the Queen dies, Charles will be King of the United Kingdom and Duke of Edinburgh.

William and George will be kings one day.

When the Queen dies, Charles will be King of the United Kingdom and Duke of Edinburgh.

The question is if Elizabeth II will outlive Charles.

The question is if Elizabeth II will outlive Charles.

It is a strong possibility. The queen's father, George VI died because of smoking, his brother's abdication (Edward VIII), stress, and the effects of WWII.

Charles will succeed Elizabeth, but I wouldn't be surprised if he abdicates before he dies himself.

Why do people still think she'll abdicate the throne or pass over her son?

Actually from what I've read the dukedom is being intended for the Queen's youngest son, the Earl of Wessex (yes, unlike his bros he's a mere Earl. Sad!) A reigning monarch doesn't hold any peerages by custom and convention, so Charles can't succeed Philip as the Duke of Edinburgh, and Andrew is already the Duke of York.

Also, unless he predecease his mother, there is no way on earth Charles passes on the crown, even if he's well over 70 when the times come. Given his parents' longevity, it's possible for him to become the oldest successor and still have relatively long reign.

Gustaf VI Adolf of Sweden didn't become King until he was already 67, and yet ruled for 23 years (1950-1973).

So does Harry become Duke of York in addition to Sussex when Andrew dies?

Prince Charles is already 5 years older than the oldest person to become a British monarch, William IV.  However, Sophia of Hanover is the oldest person to have been next in line, dying 2 months too early to become queen at age 83.

According to the wiki, the Dukedom can be inherited only by "heirs male of the body lawfully begotten", and Andrew only has two daughters. So the title will become extinct until it's likely revived.

What's the big deal about a monarch surviving his/her heir apparent? Louis XV was Louis XIV's great-grandson.

If it's about specifically passing over Charles, then the answer is obviously no, he will not be.

I predict the Queen will live another five to ten years and be succeeded by Charles, who will reign for less than ten years before passing it to William.

The Queen is the longest serving human being in any role during my short existence on this planet.

A remarkable duty well maintained.

I hope she lives long enough to see Harry and Meagan's children, and the 70th anniversary of her coronation.

It'll be Charles whenever Elizabeth dies.

However his reign isn't going to be pretty, considering how the end of the "Elizabethan Age" will coincide with the end of Britain as a major power. Charles is going to be a historical poster boy for Britain's descent into (comparative) irrelevancy.

Not to mention how many commonwealth countries are going to become republics once he is on the throne (Australia, New Zealand, probably quite a few in the caribbean, etc.)

There's no question that it will be Charles. And no reason to think he won't be as long-lived as his mother, or his mother's mother. Or his father.

I think the monarchy will survive... in England. Australia, New Zealand, etc. are more likely to go Republic under Charles.

Charles might also surprise some people, since he favors progressive politics and is more outspoken about it.
