This was before O'Connor resigned, and it was then assumed Rehnquist would be the first to go. As it happens, Roberts was in fact nominated to replace Rehnquist after all, so this fully applies:

"Intriguingly, Kennedy said that of the three oft-mentioned, younger appeals court judges who are candidates for the chief justice slot - J. Michael Luttig, John Roberts or Michael McConnell - one would be acceptable. "I'm not going to get into which one" because that would be "the kiss of death" for that person, he said."

Now, the great, drunken submersible pilot has voted against Roberts. That means there is essentially no chance Luttig would be acceptable. Curiously, McConnell has openly spoken out against Roe v. Wade. On the other hand, he was endorsed by the WaPo for the 10th Circuit, passed the committee on a voice vote, and is endorsed by virtually every legal scholar in America.

Bush is unlikely to appoint a white male, but nonetheless, it appears McConnell would either have Kennedy's support or Kennedy would (once more) be caught in a lie.

Ted Kennedy is not going to support any of Bush's nominees, regardless of who it actually is.

Agreed. Kennedy is well known for his lies; he does it on a regular basis, and about virtually everything. The joke is too much of a partisan hack to develop any real character or philosophy.

ah, Ted Kennedy.

The George W. Bush of the left.

Extreme, divisive, with a shameful past and a family which is inexplicably treatly like royalty.

The two are practically like carbon copies of one another.

I suppose a case could be made that laws don't apply to Republicans and Ted Kennedy.

Teddy isn't as relevant as he used to be, much of it due to people's rejection of statist left wing policy and his non-USA centric views, among all the personal corruption. In addition to a general understanding that he would oppose anyone Bush would appoint.

So that kinda leaves him in that range that's beyond the periphery of the mainstream so far out in left field that he's in the bull pen.

As to DeLay, it remains to be seen, but I think this stuff trumped up against him is either BS or else he just got caught doing something everyone else does.

I don't like Teddy either. Can't think of too many people who actually do.

But I do have a hard time disagreeing with him on more than just a few issues. When he's interviewed or giving a speech, believe it or not but the majority of the country actually agrees with some of his more "prominent" views.

Because they're out of government, so they have the prerogative to piss and whine about everything and everyone.

Well, the Kennedy boys all seem cursed to die gruesome deaths. However, Ted managed to avoid the curse by having someone else die in his place.
