Yeah, it is gerrymandered heavily, but I think it is better than the current map which is just as gerrymandered.

Ps. I know the area near, around, and between St Tammany and some Baton Rouge suburbs looks cut off, but that area is its own CD as it has just enough population for that. This is all based on 2010 census.

What I'd say is cut off is Corcordia from West Feliciana parish (not counting its own cut off part). That is unless you want to swim across the Mississippi to escape from Angola prison. Tongue

You can get two dem cds without this monstrousity. 1 is New Orleans, and the other goes from Baton rouge to Shreveport diagonally through Alexandria and the Red River.

I wonder how LA redistricting will go down if JBE is reelected?  Republicans are structurally below the veto override threshold in the lower chamber of the state legislature, so he would have a say.  I imagine he would refuse to sign anything that doesn't break up LA-02 into separate New Orleans and Baton Rouge districts the way VA-03 was broken up.

That would still be pretty bad

Here's a map I made around the new year as part of my "50 states Fair districts" map. Emphasis in the project was preserving counties, towns, and communities of interest. I didn't intend to create two dem seats, the New Orleans one was meant to be competitive using 2008 numbers. However once PVI was added I realized that all the AA voters had moved back to the city post-Katrina, and the map was now 2 d 4 r.

It probably isn't after VA-03 was thrown out, but for some reason no one has sued.

How close is that LA-06?  I presume it was a Clinton win?
