possibly, provided he shows maturity when going through the confirmation process.  Although it would be funny as hell, it would negatively affect my vote if he said something like "Since you are a totally incompotent moron and I'll only be wasting my breath if I try to explain this again to you, I'll explain it for everyone else Mr. Schumer".

Of course this is important, because of the upcoming ruling United States v. KillerPollo.

If he matures as he grows older, I could see myself voting to confirm him as a justice even if I disapprove of some of his views.

Alcon is that the one where Killerpollo declares New Mexico, Texas, southern California, Nevada and Colorado sovereign under Mexico or the one where he's accused of espionage?

Since when are there 2 Colorados?
I'll correct you on this one: Texas, New Mexico, California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, and the tiny southwest corner of Wyoming.

The fact that you care enough to take the southwestern corner of Wyoming speaks volumes about Mexico's desperation.

Yes, because I like to think I can put personal dislike for somebody beneath their expertise in the field that I'm confirming him for.

Right now? No. He's clever, knows his stuff and would make a good lawyer. But I wouldn't trust him to be a fair judge of anything.
If he grows up and stops being so petty and abusive I probably would.

Without hesitation. I haven't seen any other poster with as much understanding of constitutional law.

Certainly. I disagree with him on several points, but he's obviously first rate in terms of constitutional knowledge and interpretation.

Man I'd love to watch those confirmation hearings. Listening to A18 insult Schumer, Leahy, and Kennedy would just be priceless.

Don't worry, I think both people there oppose it.

I have to admit, that would be sorely tempting.

Unlike Cheney dropping the F-bomb on the Senate floor, which will eventually be forgotten - dissenting opinions in supreme court cases are kept for posterity.

My esteemed collegues obviously know nothing of constitutional law, and I refuse to explain my reasoning to such morons...

He's a bright kid, and has a pretty good knowledge base for a 16 year old.  If he outgrows the hubris of youth he has real potential.

But the world is full of wasted potential.   Ultimately time and the decisions he makes will show if he has the wisdom to make it far in life,  or if he'll end up another brilliant crackpot lecturing at a mid level university and ranting on public access TV now and then while terrorizing his grad students.
