Is LaSalle parish the most deplorable place in America?

I nominate Winston County, Alabama. Literally just voted for a pedophile by 70 points a few months ago. At least LaSalle Parish can hide behind "it was in the past!" and point to them only giving Duke single digits in 2016.
Let's not get too judgemental here. If Doug Jones was the pedophile, I wouldn't be surprised if he still won Macon county by 70%, for example.

Call me when it actually happens, then we'll talk. Even a non pedophile/non rapist like Alvin Greene (though he did get a public obscenity charge for showing porn to an 18 year old girl in public) got huge swings against him in heavily Democratic areas.

McCain wasn't deplorable enough for them. They probably personally took offense when he told that crazy lady that Obama wasn't an Ayrab Mooselum.

^ Are you calling HIM a deplorable?  I'd hope you just mean that several of the residents are, because this guy - while maybe not your cup of tea culturally - seems to be a loyal enough Democrat, right?

No, I meant the county. I just found it funny that a Winston County resident speaks the same truth about his fellow residents that the "out of touch coastal elitists" do, LOL.

ERM64MAN talking about LaSalle County possibly giving Trump over 90% of the vote is Peak Atlas.

I was just looking at county maps for the 1988 election, and Cameron Parish-which was Trump's best parish in Louisiana last year and gave him nearly 91% of the vote-actually voted for Dukakis that year! In fact, Dukakis won a substantial block of Cajun-influenced parishes in the southwestern part of the state, most of which went for Trump by landslide margins in 2020. Conversely, LaSalle Parish gave H.W. Bush more than 70% of the vote and was his best parish in the state. Cameron and LaSalle were far apart in 1988, but close together in 2020. Moreover, Biden carried Caddo and East Baton Rouge Parishes, both of which had gone to Bush. There have been substantial coalition changes at the county level in 32 years, although Orleans Parish was and remains a Democratic stronghold.

Winston County used to be great (pro-Union) during the Civil War. What happened?

Shockingly enough, our boy ERM can actually find OTHER Union supporting counties that vote Republican, all across the nation if he looks!  I know...

The Catholic areas used to be among the most Democratic in the state, as was most evident in the Northern Ireland-tier sectarian 1960 election: Catholics for Kennedy, Protestants in heavily white areas for Nixon, Protestants in racially mixed areas for the unpledged electors. In 1964, the most Catholic areas swung a lot less towards Goldwater than the rest of the state. In the 90s, Acadiana was stronger for Perot than much of the Deep South, foreshadowing movement away from the Democratic brand in the 21st century.
