But I do not care.  Let me explain what happened today.  I have a good friend.  He has been a very good friend to me for a long time.  And we just so happen to like each other a lot.  A lot if you get my drift.  In any case, we decided we're going to watch a movie.  Now normally I do not show affection in public.  I do not mind it, but I respect other people's wishes to not see it, so I don't do it.  I wouldn't say we did it today, but we did just so happen to hold hands (I didn't notice until the "event.")

You would not believe the comments people muttered under their breath.  This is a frelling university town that votes NDP (very far left).

I tell you.  It doesn't matter who they are: NDP or liberal, they all are big hypocrites.  When guys see other guys that like each other, the competition starts to see who can say the worst things to them and make the biggest "ewww" sounds.

If you see something like that, and you don't like it, IGNORE US/THEM please?  I don't go bitching because you're a 300 lb man kissing some 250 lb bitch, which I don't particularly find attractive.  Just leave us alone.

Eh.

Be careful Richious, the populace of our benighted continent  is pervaded by hateful intolerance, and violence always lurks just beneath the surface.

Why, for example look at you - a gay man who contains self-hate within himself!

Would this be committed relationship holding hands or casual sex holding hands?

I must know to know how to respond to this Wink

Hmm, seems like I'm the only "conservative" .. ahem .. to post on this topic.

Yeah, like I've said before, when reality meets ideology, the liberals/leftists are the worst gay haters.* I suppose those NDP socialists would have cheered you two holding hands if you two had done so in front of media cameras near a courthouse, or a jailhouse, because it's all about the politics with them.

Now, note: that doesn't mean a conservative would have liked seeing two dudes making out (I count holding hands as "making out"), either. In most cases, it's stomach-turning. But pointing and staring really is low class, at least for me.

* By consistent use of the word "gay" as a generic insult, and the myriad other epithets they come up with (e.g., "biters", "packers", "daggers" for the ladies) that no conservative would ever utter.

When I went to LSU, the kids who would go around saying stuff like that were on the political left drift. Don't try to tell me otherwise.

Committed only as in, he is a good friend and I'll do anything for him.  Not a life partner as in a husband-wife relationship, or even a sex buddy.  If he decides to date another person, I wouldn't be jealous.  We would never be  ... like that.  Does that make sense a bit?

That could be because there are not too many conservatives in universities.  I don't know if the sample population is representative.  In any case, I agree.  I normally expect conservatives to mutter, look disgusted, or whatever.  But from a town that is mostly liberal / NDP?  Come now.  It is truely as you say: two gays are only cheered on in front of media cameras in front of a courthosue.

Now see, I know that many people find it disturbing/uncomfortable, and for that reason I will never show affection in public (unless it is required, or expected, or mostly among friends, etc.).  I respect other people's wishes.  Now few people are return the favor.  I've seen plenty of other unattractive people kiss equally ugly people.  I don't find it appetizing, but I just look away.

The one day that I actually hold a guy's hands in public, and someone actually has to confront us with the classic "fecking queers."

And we're not even queer/gay acting!!  We do not wear pretty expensive clothes, we do not lisp, and we do not act gay.  Pretty much the only thing people disagree with is the sight of two hands touching because two people are fond of each other.

WTF.

I'm not saying leftwingers don't do sh**t like this, but conservatives are just as bad, and in my experience, tend to be worse.

That's not at all the case that I've seen.  Members of the religious right, and conservatives in general that I know are far more likely to use "gay" as an insult than all the leftists that I know.  Of course, the use of "gay" as an insult seems to have become part of the lexicon of the "hip," who honestly don't understand why they're leftists.

As to your saying that supporting gays is all a show, that is absolutely ridiculous, but if that's what you believe, there's nothing I can say that will switch your views.

Odd. Here in TX, if a religious conservative were to see two guys holding hands or whatnot, she (and they are female) would say that those two need to be "washed clean in the blood of the Lamb" if they are to find "peace with God".

I'm sorry, but no: Bible-thumping kids (but not adult) would preach at them, even perform laying-of-the-hands, but not call the two homosexuals ugly names. Maybe that only happens in New York, but certainly not here, or in Louisiana, in fact.

The non-religious conservatives, of course, would just call them fags and beat the ever-living crap out of them. It actually happened at A&M a year or so ago.

And, no, the leftwingers don't support political homosexuality out of a show, but out of political affiliation. Sure, gay people advance leftwing political causes, but that doesn't mean they are liked by other all-black-wearing political leftists. The contempt they feel towards homosexuals is palpable.

(emphasis mine)

In that case, my response is this:

What an outrage!  What despicable people!  How dare they do that!

More seriously, that's dumb of them.  I don't really see how it's that gross... at the very least they could keep their revulsion to themselves Tongue  You were respecting their wishes not to see you doing some sort of massive public display of affection, so they should respect yours and not freak out.

question to fellow gays-would you prefer to be called a fag, or told that part of you was controlled by the devil and that you're going straight to hell if you don't deny your sexuality? Bad words don't really hurt, and are said by both sides. It's when it's presented in a calm, rational manner, as if it's a totally logical argument, that sh**ts me. And that is the reserve of the christian right.

what I don't understand is why this is so gross, but lesbians making out is incredibly hot, as deemed by society.

I find it interesting that in the "intolerant" South, people only try to do what they believe is right such as a religious person offering to help a homosexual person that they believe has an affliction...

What do you mean by 'help'?  Dragging him behind a pickup truck?

Missed the point, ese. Read what Storebought wrote again. I even bolded a particularly important bit.

And for the record, what I've seen matches what Storebought said - the religious conservatives are not the ones who use violence; and lefties are way less tolerant personally than they like to claim.

I doubt any NDP supporters were the ones making comments.
