I am not sure I'd go with Cook, either ... any county that big is not going to be defined by such a specific term as "hipsterous."  Not a great answer for Illinois unless you go down to neighborhoods, LOL.

By the way, does an official or common adjective for the noun hipster exist?

Champaign County would be a competitor. Cook probably still wins, though. I can't think of any other county that could beat it out.

In arkansas?

Probably one of these two rapidly-growing northeast corridor in arkasnsas. There populations are a lot younger than the national average.

-Benton county, AR
-Washington county, AR

In Maine it's Cumberland County, just by virtue of having people who live in urban environments unlike anywhere else in the state.

Probably Davidson for Tennessee, but there a lot of hipsters moving to Chattanooga, so Hamilton could be in contention.

Native Alaskans aren't really all that hipster.

It would likely be Anchorage, as with much of Alaska.

I'd have guessed Juneau.

Maybe. Juneau is a very small town (30,000 or so) that is dominated by the state government, though.

In Missouri, I'd lay odds the most hipsterous county is Boone -- home of Univ. of MO, Columbia.

Bush won the County in 2004 though...

Kansas: Douglas, although there's a growing concentration in Old Town, Riverside, and College Hill in Wichita.

If that is true, it would be most ironic thing about this topic, as Tulsa County hasn't voted Democratic since 1936, which is an astonishing fact for such an urban county.

Here in NC, Orange (Chapel Hill) is far more hipsterous than Buncombe (Asheville). Asheville may be as hipsterous as Chapel Hill, but Asheville's suburbs are far more conservative than Chapel Hill's. Also, Chapel Hill makes up 43% of Orange and Asheville makes up 35% of Buncombe.

This is why Orange voted 78.9% against Amendment 1 (anti-gay marriage) and Buncombe only did with 51.5%.

Kings is more hipster than New York.

What about Tompkins County? I think the absolute number of hipsters is higher in Brooklyn, but the number per capita is higher in Tompkins, isn't it?

That is probably a reasonable assumption. Hudson has lots of hipsters, including a lot of olds. Smiley But the rest of the county (Columbia County), other than some who own second homes living in NYC, is most definitely not hipster.

I would clearly go with Oklahoma County.  Bricktown stands out as being hipster, and the Clinton 2016 > Obama 2012 > Obama 2008 > Kerry 2004 shift fits this as well.

I'd argue Chapel Hill skews more yuppie liberal than hipster, relative to Asheville. Though both have plenty of each.

Ain't the counties adjacent to Iowa much more hipsterous than Cook County?
Ha, no.

That area, both rural and urban portions, is heavily working-class whites. You'll find far more hipsters in Bloomington-Normal than you'd find in Peoria or Rock Island.
