Seriously, If someone catches me mincing down Chapel Street in a tank top and Gucci sunglasses, they'd have every right to bash me.

yeah, I know it's getting off topic.  But I agree completely.  I have no problem with gays, but I'm quite annoyed by those who confuse their gender identities, or try to mix it up with being gay.

exactly. I'm a man who likes cock.

If you're a male who wants to be a woman, fine, but don't pretend you're representative of gay people.

I dont really get the politics of South Park that much. I actually enjoy South Park a lot, and I share many of their libertarian values. It doesn't strike me as being a Republican show, far from it in fact. So, it surprises me to know their creaters are Republicans. Oh well, whatever.

One's a registered libertarian, IIRC.

I know. At least that makes some sense. I figure it's probably their best fit, since they seem to hate Liberals. Liberals have a tendancy to piss people off, that's why I'm a social democrat Cheesy

People who oppose hate crimes are lame.
I oppose hate crime legislation, myself.

Let me re-phrase that:

People who oppose hate crimes legislation are apologists for the crimes that are committed. I don't buy the whole "Why punish them twice?" arguement. Hate should be punished more or else it means you have no problem with the crime itself.

"Hate crimes" are already crimes.  I think it's dangerous to punish state of mind rather than behavior, and the effect of that behavior.

If you deliberately kill somebody, I don't see why there should be a different penalty if you did it because of "hate" or whether you wanted to rob the person.

Most people who oppose hate crime laws are conservatives who support stiffer punishment for crime in any case.  Most people who oppose these laws do not do so on the grounds of wanting leniency for criminals.  In fact, I'd venture to guess that many who oppose hate crime laws want sentences for the underlying crime (murder, assault) that would be stiffer than those provided under hate crimes legislation.

There is also the question of application of the law.  Under the current politically correct environment, crimes against white males will almost never be considered hate crimes.  When the crime is black on white, hate is always denied as the motive, even when it clearly is.  There could be no reason for those of us who don't belong to "protected classes" to expect any type of fairness in application of hate crimes laws in today's political environment.

Yeah, and they've replaced humor with lame references to pop-culture that aren't even funny at all. It must be windy at FOX on Sundays, with the Simpsons sucking and the reality shows blowing.

So, do you believe that someone who commits murder as part of an act of terrorism should be treated the same as someone who murders a coach that molested his son?

That a drunk that kills another drunk in a barroom brawl should get the exact same consideration as someone who guns down a cop in cold blood to 'teach the pigs a lesson'?

Should assasins who murder or attempt to murder prominent politicians (say, John Hinkley), be treated exactly the same as any other petty thug?

I believe motive counts in determining the severity of the crime.

Any "Daily show" Democrats here?

Yes, murder is murder regardless. If the death penalty was equally applied to all murderers we would have to worry about 'thought crimes' etc.

No, I have a problem with the crime; that's why someone is punished for it.  We punish crimes, not hate.

I'm one! The show last month where Jon debated Christopher Hitchens was awesome, he really let him have it.
