Al has demostrated a remarkable thoughtfulness and insight in many of his posts.

He is one of the few non Americans to have a good grasp of American politics.

While I diagree with some of his policy preferences, I respect his views.

The other character should stick to something he understands (strip clubs).

I voted no

The initial decision to start smoking is quite stupid, yes (even though it usually has more to do with peer pressure etc. than an actual choice) but after that point it's not like smokers have a great deal of choice; nicotine is an extremely addictive substance and kicking the "habit" (as if being addicted to something like nicotine is just a "habit") is extremely hard.

Would you consider an alcoholic to be "fcuking stupid"? And by alcoholic I don't mean someone who chooses to get pissed every night (they are "fcuking stupid", btw) I mean someone who is actually addicted to alcohol; one drink becomes five, ten, twenty... they don't really have any control over what they are doing, and neither do smokers. And nicotine is much, much more addictive than alcohol...

Oh and for the record, I don't smoke, hardly ever drink and the only drugs I take are prescribed to me for various medical conditions.

Al, haven't you figured out that anybody who doesn't agree with BRTD's strange concoction of ideas in every area is "fcuking stupid." BRTD is such a prodigy; he has everything in the world figured out at 21 years old. What do old guys like you know?

Al is likely younger than is BRTD believe it or not

Yes, I suspect with his unwillingness to state his age and his unwillingness to state his health troubles he is a 12-year-old Stephen Hawking or some such Wink

That's pretty funny.  How do you know?  Of course, there's physical age and mental age.

Back about a year ago, we were trying to get Al's name and age out of him.  We never truly succeeded, but he did say his age was "under 20."  So there's probably a 99% chance now he's younger than BRTD.

No, smoking is not 'stupid,' per se, but obviously it's not particularly healthy.

I guess so, if he's telling the truth about his age.  But he seems older to me.  Maybe it's the name Al.  With no insult intended, when I hear that name, I picture a fat balding Italian guy in his late 50s.

As I'm sure you will discover if and when you reach old age, life after about 60 or 70 isn't worth a damn.

I'm dealing with the sickly declining parents right now, and the object lesson of that task is - live it up and don't plan your life around the post 60 'golden years'.

But what's the point of spending all that money on cigarettes? would you rather spend it on cigarettes or prostitutes?

Or saving it? Unless, of course, you plan to work at a record store until death.

I don't intend on hiring any prostitutes. I was simply explaining to opebo why it'd be stupid. I don't know if he smokes or not, but if he does he's wasting a lot of money he could be spending on his favorite activity.

I just am glad I can buy all the records I want. Haven't spent any on strippers in quite awhile actually.

And I don't work at a record store, although I kind of wish I did. The girl who I want to have sex with more than anyone else in the world except one person works at the record store here. Of course the one person mentioned before who I'd rather have sex with than anyone else in the world is one of my coworkers.
