So as many of you may know about me, I am a fan of films. All kinds. Dramas, action, comedies, and thrillers. I've seen so many movies it's impossible for me to name them all. People often ask me what my favorite films are. Not necessarily films I'd consider "the greatest of all time" like The Godfather or something, but movies that I find to be my personal favorites. I've seen films from every decade from the 1930s to the 2010s.

So a couple of years ago, using my IMDB account, I decided to click on the "watchlist" button and check off any movie I know I have ever seen. Anything. Even made-for-TV films or those cheesy 90s teen comedies. After years of adding films I have seen and films I've watched for the first time recently, I wound up with a list of nearly 1,400 films.

Undoubtably there are movies I have missed on my check-list, but given the idea of my personal "favorites", I find it likely that any of my favorites have already been checked off.

So I searched through the list of 1,400 films and narrowed it down to 100 that I find truly great. I then narrowed the 100 down to 50, then 40, then 30 and 20.

I eventually wound up with my top ten favorite movies which was very difficult as once I got to my top twenty or thirty, it became agonizing to try and remove anymore to choose my favorites.

1. Armageddon (1998)
2. Reservoir Dogs (1992)
3. Fargo (1996)
4. Midnight Run (1988)
5. Nothing to Lose (1997)
6. Trading Places (1983)
7. Forrest Gump (1994)
8. The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
9. Jaws (1975)
10. 3000 Miles to Graceland (2001)

Of my top ten personal favorites, one is from the 1970s, one is from the 2000s, two are from the 1980s, and the remaining six are from the 1990s.

All of these films in my top ten are movies I essentially know by heart, have seen too many times to contemplate. These are movies that never get old to me. I'll never tire of watching "Forrest Gump" or "Shawshank Redemption". I always get a thrill from Bruce Willis in "Armageddon" and Kurt Russell and Kevin Costner in the greatly underrated 2001 film "3000 Miles to Graceland". When I caught a shark in Florida back in 2015, the first words my father and I uttered were "You're gonna need a bigger boat", making "Jaws" an undeniable favorite.

I should add, "Midnight Run", "Nothing to Lose" and "Shawshank Redemption" all have quite possibly the happiest endings I've ever seen in films.

Looking over the entire list of my top 100, I found a few interesting facts about my film preferences.

By decade, my preference is clearly for the 1990s.

1960s - 2
1970s - 6
1980s - 26
1990s - 53
2000s - 12
2010s - 1

Of the 1990s, the years with the most films (therefore, my "favorite" years for movies) is a tie between 1993 and 1994.

1990 - 3
1991 - 7
1992 - 3
1993 - 8
1994 - 8
1995 - 2
1996 - 4
1997 - 7
1998 - 5
1999 - 6

Least recent - "Boeing Boeing" 1965
Most recent - "Gone Girl" 2014

My top ten was quite difficult to make. Movies like "My Cousin Vinny", "Backdraft", "While You Were Sleeping", and "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" all made my top twenty.

My list would be full of weird, grotesque, and obscure films that most of you have never even heard of.
