New poll from Public Policy Institute of California has Newsom first and Cox second. Note this poll does not include Democrat Amanda Renteria who in the previous poll had 4%. This poll is good news for Cox and Newsom and reinforces the notion that this race will be D vs R. Most undecided voters are Republican and Independent voters. Another interesting number is that only 55% of voters are satisfied with the choice of candidates for governor.

Worthless poll. Doesn't ask about the other 23 candidates for Governor.

Also, compared to the last PPIC poll (Jan 21-30):

Gavin Newsom 28% (+5)
John Cox 14% (+7)
Antonio Villariagosa 12% (-9)
Travis Allen 10% (+2)
John Chiang 6% (-3)
Delaine Eastin 5% (+1)
Someone else 1%
Undecided 24%

Chiang without a doubt lost momentum over the past weeks. I hope Cox makes it to the general election since Dem versus Dem races are less interesting.

I mean Newsom vs. Villar/Chiang would be pretty interesting than one where we'd know Newsom is for sure winning against the R. It'd be interesting to see the racial splits in a Villar matchup and how they attack each other as fellow Dems.

Most of those are no-names who are hardly going to poll over 1% in the primary. It's hard to poll for people like that without having their polling being really inflated compared to what they'll end up getting. It was even hard for the pollsters to poll the Republicans in the 2016 Senate race. The Republican side seems to have consolidated towards Cox and Allen.

Great to see a better chance for D vs. R.

Newsom v. Villaraigosa is just Harris v. Sanchez 2.0. Yawn.

Was more a snarky comment about the 2018 CA Senate polls, which get blasted here for not including any of the 10 no-name Republicans and 7 other Dems

So Chiang could actually finish behind Eastin...
