A mainstream conservative Northeastern Republican, how would Gov. Chris Christie (R-N.J.) have done in the socially conservative state of West Virginia in the general election?

He obviously would have won WV since WV is a red state and has been a red state since 2000.

Christie is a Northeastern Republican. Would he have fared well there?

Probably better than Romney but not as good as Trump did. of course he would have won the state overwhelmingly.

No, it doesn't depend on who the Democrat is. it would be Safe R unless we're talking about Christie vs. Manchin or Jim Justice.

Well, a fitting Democrat might be able to make such massive headway like literally winning 1 county.

A populist Dem could possibly pick off Monongalia or Jefferson County, but that's about it. I don't see any reason to think coal country would swing against Christie, in many ways he's very similar to Trump.
