I could see this going either way, honestly.

Is it matter who will lose to Stabenow?

I think Pensler wins the primary easy. He's led by an average of 7.8 points across five polls conducted since March.

James had a few really good fundraising quarters and has several name brand GOP endorsements, but it looks like Pensler, a self-funder and a congressional candidate flunkee all the way from 1992, is going to beat him anyway (Pensler loaned his campaign $5 Mil and raised... around $80k).

Idk Pensler's politics but maybe it's because James comes across as very very conservative (which seems to be typical for African Americans running in the Republican Party as of late).

I don't think either could beat Stabenow but it looks like Michigan is going to be a money pit nevertheless.
