I don't think anyone ever answered my earlier question, but oh well. Setting aside the merits of this proposal for a moment, I would caution the Senate against enshrining in the text of the Constitution offices that exist nowhere else in the document and whose powers are defined by Congress or executive order (SoFE, RG, NA) and which may be reformed, consolidated, or abolished with the stroke of a pen—leaving the Constitution bloated with references to positions that do not exist.

EDIT: Also, strictly speaking the "Cabinet" does not actually exist (the Constitution refers only to officers of executive departments throughout the rest of the document; that these officers work in concert as a unified whole is purely a feature of convention) and the second clause of the first sentence (nor occupy the office of Justice or Associate Justice simultaneously with any other public office") is redundant, given the first.

I did consider the issue, truly, and I felt that on balance it made more sense to include the offices themselves. Otherwise the issue of exceptions for the "principal officers of the departments" might get confused, and save for the exceptions I've presented I do not feel other offices (such as regional executives or legislators) should be mixed with the Cabinet.
