I've been watching a bunch of old Unsolved Mysteries episodes recently. What is one great mystery that you hope to one day know the answer to?

My top suggestion would probably be the Dyatlov Pass Incident.

They had deviated from their intended path quite a bit further up the mountain side where they decided to make camp due to an incoming storm rather than hike down into the wooded areas.

At some point, an avalanche of unknown magnitude occurred, burying the tent with them inside (much of the snow may have continued down the slope without the tend, leaving them behind.  But it ruined the tend and likely killed or caused severe injury to a few of them (crushing their chests in two cases and cracking the skull in another).  They cut their way out of the tent thinking they might suffocate and immediately lose their bearing and ability to find the tent in their half clothed state.

So they made their way lower and the healthiest ones were given clothes the others had on so they could go down and find their food and supply cache they had left for the return journey while they lit a fire under a tree nearby (the thought being they could keep warm by the fire until the others got back with supplies).

But the weather was just too much and everyone died of hypothermia.  The hiker missing their eyes, tongue, and part of lip was due to putrefication in a wet environment over the 3 months between the incident and when they found the body.  Alternatively, an animal scavenged the corpse when it was frozen and could only get those bits.

Because they don't have language that we know of.  Other primates (chimps, bonobos, orangutans...) aren't even vocal learners - all of their noises come pretty much baked in.  We have an easier time trying to talk to elephants, cetaceans, bats, and (some) birds.  Even then, it's not clear that they combine "words" (or some similar equivalent) together to form sentences like we do.

yeah yeah, still, seems overcomeable (is that a word?).  It should probably be one of the bigger human goals.  Space travel number 1, we got to get off this rock at some point in the next 2 billion years, it could be next Tuesday.  We should be focused on that.  Medical advances should be number 2, keep us healthy so we can enjoy life better.  Talking to dogs should be number 3.  Way ahead of faster modes of getting large numbers of us around the Earth quicker or erections that last longer.

"Officially" it's not a mystery, but I think there's a strong chance that Kurt Cobain was murdered and didn't commit suicide. there are many things that don't add up, such as the fact that he shouldn't have been able to pull the trigger with the amount of heroin that was in his system, for starters.

I don't buy the avalanche explanation, personally. Looking at photographs of the camp area, it doesn't look like the kind of snow that would be left behind after an avalanche - and we know conditions didn't change too much between the time of the event and when the camp was found because there were still distinct footprints in the snow. Plus, if you look at where the camp was on the slope - towards the top and at a reasonably shallow angle, it seems an unlikely spot for an avalanche to happen in general. Personally, I think the most likely explanation is some sort of sonic disorientation - whether it be from missile tests or just wind against the mountain.

Two of my other favorites are the Tamam Shud Case and the Hinterkaifeck murders.
