Hey everyone! I decided to make a Maine State Senate map with numbered districts and I also included a little information about who is term-limited. There are currently 18 Republican senators and 17 Democratic senators. With Democrats controlling the Maine House and a decent chance of Democrats picking up the Governorship, the Senate will be extremely important. The blue districts on my map are represented by Democrats and red by Republicans.

Republicans Term-Limited in 2018: In districts 3, 7, 11, 15, 17, 22, 34

District 3 includes Skowhegan and Madison. The Republican won with 54% of the vote in 2016.
District 7 includes Bar Harbor/Mt. Desert Island. The Republican won with 56% of the vote in 2016.
District 11 includes Belfast. The Republican won with 52% of the vote in 2016.
District 15 includes Augusta. The Republican won with 77% of the vote in 2016.
District 17 includes much of Franklin County. The Republican won with 72% of the vote in 2016.
District 22 includes Turner and Lisbon. The Republican won with 67% of the vote in 2016.
District 34 includes Wells, Kennebunk, and part of the Berwicks. The Republican won with 56% of the vote in 2016.

Democrats Term-Limited in 2018: In district 35

District 35 includes York, Kittery, and Ogunquit. The Democrat won with 59% of the vote in 2016.

It looks weird for Aroostook County to be all Democrats, and for there to be a large number of Republicans in York and Cumberland Counties.

I'd imagine at least the 1st, 2nd, and 5th are D/Trump.

Wow, that chamber is not ideologically well sorted at all!

Looks like it would be 18D/17R if everything broke along Clinton/Trump lines?

Are they all up in 2018?

Yep. A term is 2 years and the limit is four consecutive terms. So everyone will be up.

Judging by presidential numbers and term limits, districts 7, 11, and 34 should be top targets. 30 seems like a good target on paper but the Republican senator there is the Assistant Majority Leader and she's a proven winner in competitive House/Senate seats so that will be tough. I could see 13, 15, and 16 switching in a good Democratic year.

Districts 1 and 2 were close in 2016 and they'll be top GOP targets, especially district 1 since Troy Jackson is the Senate Minority Leader and a potential future star since he's only 49 and very relatable/connects well with working folk.

Are there any good challengers in any of these districts so far? Particularly state representatives and what not?

Erin Herbig is the current House Majority Leader and she is running for Senate District 11 (which voted for Clinton and the incumbent Republican there is term-limited).

A former Obama appointee, Laura Fortman, is running for District 13.

I'd imagine at least the 1st, 2nd, and 5th are D/Trump.

1, 2, and 14 are Trump/D districts in CD-2.

Fun fact: Of the three state senate seats that make up NJ-02, Trump won two seats and Clinton won one state senate seat. Amusingly, Democrats hold both Trump seats and a Republican holds the lone Clinton seat. Probably the only instance of such reverse-ticket-splitting in a region in the entire country. Though Democrats do hold all the state Assembly seats in that congressional district, which are coterminous with the Senate districts.

Minnesota CDs are kind of like that.
