Economic justice is laissez-faire capitalism, so I support that.

The rest is immoral garbage.

It makes a lot of good points, and there are some issues I wholeheartedly agree with them on.

I think, however, simply to say that Jesus "preached equality," as a blanket statement is not really true.  While social equality was very much a part of Jesus' message, he spends a great deal of time talking about heaven and hell, about lambs and goats, and so forth.  There is no equality when we leave this world.

Also, regarding issues such as Gay and Lesbian rights, Jesus is a friend to sinners not because their sin is ok and we shouldn't "marginalize them because of their sin," but rather because sinners are those most in need of a savior.  A doctor spends time among sick people not because he likes disease and accepts it, but because it is his mission to heal it.

Interestingly, this site does the same sort of selective reading and over-literalizing of scripture that liberal Christians are always accusing conservative Christians of doing:

It's a parable.  If you think that parable is literally about forgiving monetary debts, you are completely missing the point.

Perhaps these people could be spared the lions maw.. though I still find their religious beliefs exceedingly suspicious.  Why not just abandon all that idiotic claptrap, if they're not completely deluded?  I guess half-deluded is better than completely deluded.

Their position on abortion clearly disqualifies their label of "Christian" as there are few things less Christian than condoning the murder of innocents.

While I'm inclined to agree with them on gays and peace over war, their opposition to criminalization of abortion is clearly too much.

They have some valid points on some issues but they're single biggest flaw is a pretty simple one; they are trying to use Christianity to justify every little bit of contempery Liberal dogma. In doing so they're no better than the sane parts of the Religious Right really.

A much better model for Christian leftism would be The Christian Socialist Movement; we actually have a fair bit of political power for one thing.
Although I suspect the appeal of such an organisation to standard-issue American Liberals would be small as the CSM is largely made up of various Nonconformist/Evangelical* and Social Catholic types. And it's always been very moralistic.

*The outstanding British Evangelical in the late 20th Century was the late Rev Donald Soper; one of the founders of the CSM.

That is certainly NOT Christian...and it's just stupid.

And of course you and the rest of the blue avatars here have the final say on what Christianity will or will not constitute, seeing as how only Republicans are allowed to talk about religion in this country.

Abortion bores the hell out of me. Lets not drive around in circles.

Note that they are for prevention of abortion, not condoning it like Jake implies.

BTW Jake, you condone the murder of innocents all the time.

Don't forget the parable of the "Wheat and Tares" -- some people are born of evil and are fit only for hellfire. That parable scared even the Apostles overhearing it.

Jesus didn't teach "social equality" as he did "spiritual equality", namely, His Father will sit in judgment of everyone, and not even the rich could barter their way out of it.

"We're all equally damnable" was the message I got from the N.T.

These are much closer to true Christian values than the James Dobson/Pat Robertson version of "Christian" values.
