if it is true, and if it is a recruitment movie, that's not funny, it's scary-and appalling

Let me state first that I am not opposed to the war.  Having said that, Chuck E Cheese is the wrong place and the wrong time for such a message.  They should put up "Support our troops" posters if they want to support the war.

20+ years of G.I. Joe cartoons and this is the first time you notice this kind of thing?

Do you ever cease this ridiculousness?  They're simply showing the humanitarian side of the soldiers.  It isn't a recruitment movie, and you and the far leftist who wrote the article are the only ones I know who could possibly interpret it that way.

I love G.I. Joe!  I have three twelve inch figures and I'm hoping to add to my collection.

And that, friends, is the difference between a teenage Republican and their contempories.

My parents wouldn't let me have G.I. Joe when I was little.  They said it glorified the military-industrial complex.  They also wouldn't let me join the Boy Scouts, as it was a "paramilitary organization."

My mom also told me in 1988 that Reagan should be put in prison for war crimes.

TexasGurl today and my mom in the 1980s would have gotten along well.

What's that supposed to mean?  G.I. Joe has been around since the fifties and collectors come in all age ranges and political views.

That is horrible.  I really would love to know how the Defense Dept thought this would be a good idea.

What is horrible about showing kids the humanitarian side of our troops?

During kids' birthday parties at Chuck E. Cheese?  They can save that feel-good pro-war PR campaign for a better time and a better place, thank you very much.

Okay, I thought you were refering to the theme of the film, not the medium.  I agree showing that at a birthday party is a little bit much, but showing it to kids I don't think is wrong.

Huh. Okay, cool.

I think it's one of the most negative post effects of Fascism that people are alarmed by anything even remotely nationalistic. Clearly not enough here to even approach working me up.

On first sight, I thought this thread was about homosexuals and angsty middle schoolers. Then I read "Texasgurl" and suddenly had to change my mind.

Hah, Cartoon Network shows comparable stuff that kids watch every afternoon. I really don't see the problem here, especially since stuff like this always turns out to be bs anyway.

I don't see this as being so wrong as I do as confusing.

What is their intent with these?  To get kids to have awkward conversations with their parents?  To make 3-year-olds have a great sense of nationalism in case the Iraq War is still going on in 15 years?

Um, scary!  Let's get the toddlers all goose-stepping off to glory and death as we brainwash them into thinking that war is a good thing.
