I'm looking at which states put winning presidential candidates over the 270 EV mark. Compiled this data from watching various Election Night playbacks. Since it is a pretty arbitrary stat, it's interesting how often it happens to be Ohio.
2016: PA
2012: OH
2008: CA
2004: OH
2000: FL
1996: NY
1992: OH
1976: MS
If anybody can add to this list, I'd appreciate it.
Interesting that MS played that role one year. As for OH, it is an EV-rich state that votes near the national average, is often close, and therefore gets called late-- thus is particularly likely to be the deciding state.
