Unlike many of the others, I didn't think "Spirit" was anything but the airline, since Spirit is just that bad.  Friends never let friends fly Spirit.

I thought everybody loved Southwest.

Southwest is deeply polarizing, a fact that confuses me as a Southwest devotee.  For some reason people are obsessed with the idea of assigned seats, and I really don't understand why.

Yeah the assigned seats is a biggie for a lot of people. Not the biggest fan myself, either.

The assigned seats thing is awful. I want a window seat always! Also, they don't really do megahubs like Delta at ATL or American at DFW, which really limits where they go. Add to that no intercontinental service and no codesharing, and they're mediocre at best.

That's the beauty if anything. Nice point to point service without being stuck at one of those nightmares for hours on end if something goes wrong [which wouldn't be so bad if connecting flights were next door to each other, but that's almost never true]. Or worse, stuck at Point A because of weather [which is why I make it a point to NEVER let O'Hare come into the equation in winter].

Also, assigned seating is great for finding the perfect place in the front if you're first [without paying for first class], or the back to wait out the deboarding storm if you aren't.

I always want a window seat, and I always get a window seat when I check in 24 hours in advance.  Maybe it's in row 20 or whatever, but I don't care as much about that, especially since Southwest's point-to-point routes make it much easier to avoid having to change planes.

I've only flown Delta and United, but I thought it was pretty much a known fact that Spirit sucks?
