But my comment  without partisanship: this is a request from the president that the chief of staff and the secretary of defense should politely but firmly refuse. Presidents honor armed service members and veterans, not military hardware. That goes for air shows and the like as well.

I don't get how a parade in NYC in 1942 meant to raise war bonds for an actual war is in any way the same as president micro dick holding an ego boosting military parade in D.C.

I think in modern American discourse such a show would be considered unacceptable on a national platform. I don't see people having as much of a problem of this, if say, a small town had it's local unit march in its parade.

Units marching in a local parade are a great thing to see, because all the various community organizations and groups try to take part in the parade, which is usually put on to celebrate the locality (where I grew up, most towns have a "______ Days" celebration in the summer to celebrate their particular community). There's a huge difference between that, where it's the community coming together to celebrate, and a military-only parade to show off the military's might (kinda?).

I'm also a bit weirded out by the Roosevelt bust in that parade. I would be uncomfortable if Obama was having a military parade in his own honor, as well. A fund-raising parade is different, though the bust is still creepy.

It is pointless and without  precedent  in America.

But it has plenty of precedent where in places with dictators.

By the way -- streets around the White House, Capitol, and Supreme Court have pie-crust paving unsuited to heavy vehicles, including heavy military equipment (or even 18-wheel trucks). The weight limits for those streets are typical for bridges approaching the ends of their useful lives inso0me states. That's one way to stop a coup.
