I need to find something I saw online a few years ago, help?

All I remember was that it was a website with a story/article relating to a scientist who supposedly recorded noises of hell and a conference about it that was hushed up. I can't remember the name of the scientist, the scientist was a man and if I remember correctly the website claimed he had committed suicide in (I believe) Paris, in 2004 or so. It also mentioned he was an avowed atheist who believed he had recorded something unknown in background radiation, rather than hell itself.

For some reason the story was connected in some way to a website called "God Hates Elves" and I think I read a discussion about it on a site called "Ars Technica" but I can't find anything. Someone help?

Well then they did a really good job of covering it up.  Wouldn't rattle too many cages or you might attrach their attention.

sounds like the well to hell hoax. there's been a few variations on that.
