AFTER THE RALLY

The rally in Nelson Park ended at 6:30, after a rousing speech from Spencer announcing his candidacy. Closing remarks were made by a surprise guest: Representative Steve King of Iowa, who endorsed Spencer, citing "His great quest to bring back the values of Western Civilization to these United States."

Steve King addresses the rally

Meanwhile, the Byrd Park rally was still ongoing. At 7:04 PM, Lee Carter was addressing the crowd about the recently announced candidacy of Spencer when a gunshot rang out. Approximately 150 white supremacists were closing in on the rally from the South side, and one had just shot at the crowd. Fighting soon broke out between the crowd and the incoming mob. While most of the crowd was focused on the south side, another 50 alt-righters had swept around the park, entering from the North side. The police were attempting to get themselves between the two groups, but were failing. Eventually, the city police asked for the assistance of the Prince William County police, who successful in separating the groups.

There was an investigation as to how the group of 200 managed to get to Byrd Park without the police getting in the way. It was found that the car that was meant to be patrolling Grant Avenue, where the white supremacists went down, was instead at the Manassas Islamic Center after the attempted burning, even though they were not asked to do so. The 2 officers in the car were suspended for a period.

A total of 8 people died in the fighting, 6 Left Front protesters and 2 Alt Right ones.

I should also make it clear, although it should be obvious: I don't condone violence. I don't wish for this to happen, it's just a work of fiction.

WHO CAN VA REPUBLICANS PUT UP TO STOP SPENCER?

Mar 9 2020
By Karl de Vries and Dan Merica

With the shocking announcement by white supremacist Richard Spencer that he was running for Senate, Virginia state Republicans are scrambling to find a candidate. These are the ones that are the most talked about:

FMR REP BARBARA COMSTOCK

Probably the first choice among state Republican leadership, Comstock lost her seat in 2018. Our sources say that she is seen as the most likely person to defeat Spencer.

STATE DELEGATE NICK FREITAS

Achieving massive notoriety after a speech he gave on gun rights back in 2018, Freitas almost beat Corey Stewart for the 2018 Senate nomination. He has already hinted that he might give it another go, and now might be his best opportunity.

FMR REP SCOTT TAYLOR

Another Representative who lost in 2018, Taylor has been considering a challenge for over a year at this point, and is poised to announce a run. However, he still has a scandal that is weighing him down slightly, and that may be considered too big of a risk to take for the state GOP.

REP ROB WITTMAN

Wittman is a surprising name to be thrown around here, mostly due to the fact that he has a decently competitive race shaping up against Delegate Lee Carter. However, Wittman himself has been considering a run for a while. State officials don't like the idea though, as him retiring to run for Senate may be throwing away a congressional seat.

ANNOUNCEMENT BY WITTMAN AND TAYLOR HAS GOP IN PANIC

BY JEFF E. SCHAPIRO Richmond Times-Dispatch Mar 12, 2020

Republican leadership is in panic after two candidates declared their intent to run for Senate, possibly splitting the vote and leading to the infamous Richard Spencer winning.

The party tried to dissuade incumbent Representative, Rob Wittman, from running, but he was not deterred, and said he was in the race "to ensure all people in this great state have a Senator they can be proud of."

Wittman announced his candidacy on the 12th.

Wittman's announcement doesn't only create danger of giving Spencer the nomination, but it may also lose the 1st district for the GOP. Lee Carter, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, is running in the district in what appears to be a close race. Without Wittman, the Republicans may not find a strong candidate and lose, even in this Republican-leaning district.

VIRGINIA REPUBLICAN SENATE POLLING
Candidates in Italics haven't declared

Richard Spencer: 27%
Scott Taylor: 25%
Rob Wittman: 24%
Nick Freitas: 7%
Undecided: 17%

Barbara Comstock took her name out of consideration.

Not likely. The premise was always a bit rooted in my more naive mind from back in the day when I watched Secular Talk all the time and was still moving on from my unironic communist days. Perhaps I'll give it another go where things are more realistic but I don't think this one is likely to return.
