Alliances building ahead of 2021 election

ODS, KDU-CSL and TOP09 have announced a deal to run as a coalition in the general election in 2021. The three center-right parties also tried to convince STAN to join the agreement, but STAN preferred negotiating a deal with the Pirates. However, it seems like the Pirate membership is not fully convinced of the advantages of a STAN deal. An indicative online poll on the Pirate forum indicated 51% against and 43% for. The final decision is expected in a vote 13-16 November.

Particularly for the smaller parties, it can make sense to gang up with a bigger party. For single parties, the threshold is 5%, two-party alliances have to get 10% and the three-party alliance 15%. With the current ODS and Pirate strength, the alliances should fairly easily cross these threshold.
what is spo position on coaltiions? looking at polls they could very well be king makers

Alliances are really in fashion in Czechia this year, and a third one might be on its way. The CSSD is trying to make an agreement with the Green Party. The environmentalists only achieved 1.46% in 2017 and have rarely polled over 2% since. Therefore, an alliance would probably be in danger of missing the 10% threshold, so instead it will probably be Green candidates running on the Social Democrat list if an agreement is reached. The parties had succesful cooperation in two regions in the regional election.
That seems like it will net votes... for the Pirates.

SZ, that's the Greens:

To quote Pelíšky: "And who will that benefit, huh? The other party?"
what are pirates political and could we see something like them in the states?

What is this I am here about the courts declaring the electoral system illegal?
The electoral system was declared unconstitutional for mainly 2 reasons:
1.) It favors large parties. When a party crosses the 5 percent threshold, its seats get allocated with the D'Hondt method (that naturally favors large parties) and on a regional basis (and as some regions just have very few seats to distribute, smaller parties are getting an additional disadvantage). Extreme example: The Green Party received about 6 % of the vote in 2006, but as its voter basis came largely from the capital region of Prague and their vote share in other regions was too small to get seats there, they happened to end up with 3 % of the seats (6/200).
2.) Electoral coalitions made of several parties are disadvantaged since they have to take a higher threshold (10 % for a coalition of 2 parties, 15 % for coalitions of 3 parties etc.).
so what will replace it? nation wide list?

Perhaps the CSSD and KSCM should just merge. Call it a National Front.

If STAN got 34 seats, ODS got 33 and nothing else changed, who would have been the Prime Ministerial proposal?
isn’t it opposite

82% of Pirate members voting supported them entering the government, so it's all aboard for them now.
Fiala expected to present his new 5-party government on Wednesday
I am 99% they won’t be in goverment in 4 years

went down a weird bit of a rabbit hole today about hockey players getting political (upon thinking of Ovechkin's pretty open support of Putin) and found that apparently Dominik Hasek said back in 2020 he'll be running for President in 2028, though obviously things can change. As a Buffalo fan, it certainly would be interesting to see that. If he wins I hope the news plays the Rick Jeanneret "we are not worthy!" line lol

Not sure of his politics other than calling Ovechkin a chickensh*t after Crimea and more recently calling for all Russian players to be kicked out of the NHL unless they disavow the invasion of Ukraine.

https://www.parlamentnilisty.cz/arena/monitor/V-roce-2028-to-zkusim-Dominator-Hasek-chce-byt-vasim-prezidentem-616718

Edit: he is apparently heavily considering running for senate next year after being approached by TOP 09 https://english.radio.cz/legendary-goalie-dominik-hasek-considering-running-senate-8790522
Hasek said he wanted all russians players regardless of supporting putin or not to be kicked out of the nhl.

Babis should be calling for a smaller threshold for parliamentary representation instead. He might be prime minister today if the last elections had a smaller one as so many votes were wasted that went to parties that would not be supportive of current govt.
a 5% thershold are a good number their should be more risk in your vote
