I had a discussion about four months ago on the forum.

The candidacy of Governor George Wallace of Alabama as the Republican Presidential nominee in 1968 was the subject, in an election against Democratic candidate Hubert Humphrey.

We got into the issue of a Vice Presidential running mate for George Wallace.  The author believed that either Governor Nelson Rockefeller of New York or Governor George Romney of Michigan would accept the Vice Presidential nomination with George Wallace as the Republican Presidential nominee in 1968.

I disagreed, stating neither of them would accept the Vice Presidential nomination with George Wallace as the Presidential nominee.

I would be interested in hearing views in this matter from others, simply to get other people's opinions.

Thank you for any feedback.

Humphrey would be raped on a scale unseen since the days of Adlai Stevenson.

See 1964 for a more recent, more intense raping.

George Wallace wouldn't run as the Republican in 1968, maybe by 1988, but not in 1968 and neither would that party nominate him.

it would have been hard for george wallace to find a running mate in the gop in 1968.  in those days the party was still controlled by the northeast elite.

one possible running mate would have been governor ronald reagan.
