Reaganfan, what is your reaction to Trump turning down Schumer's Wall-for-DACA deal?

Why does anyone care what that hack thinks?

Republicans own Congress and the White House and they can't even pass a god damn budget. They're pathetic. I fully expect that the Democrats will be blamed, even though the Republicans also caused the shut down last time and they somehow won the Senate the following year.

I'm legitimately curious what supporters of the Wall think about Trump turning it down when he actually could have had it.

This sounds weird but more people are saying the dems are being blamed then dems actually being blamed. Like we got various CNN, NYT and other media figures saying the dems are going to be blamed but all polling/twitter trends/general social media reaction says Trump is overwhelming being blamed

There's some blame to be passed around for it of course, but frankly this is mostly the Democrats' fault from trying to make passing a budget contingent upon something of trivial budgetary significance (DACA). In a sane world DACA would be dealt with as part of a grand immigration overhaul with amnesty, a guest worker program, and actual immigration enforcement following a grace period (with something like mandatory jail time for knowingly hiring someone who is not authorized to work in the US). I know we don't live in a sane world. But I still think it's a highly dubious strategy to attach this whole issue onto a budget negotiation. And then on top of it I see Dems all over the place giddily gloating about how much they expect this will hurt Trump rather than angry it happened.

There was a DACA deal. A bipartisan DACA deal with buy-in from both parties anc concessions made on all sides. A deal. And then Trump blew it up. The blame for the shutdown rests upon his shoulders and his shoulders alone. (well and also Tom Cotton's and John Kelly's)

Quite frankly, shutting down the govt to get a policy concession doesn't even seem to be that effective, at least in proportion to the negative side effects it causes. I suppose it's possible Democrats get a win out of this, but I don't expect that to happen. This seems like the kind of thing Trump would let drag on forever because he's too obsessed with winning, or at least saving face.

Let's be honest, Democrats were never going to get a deal on DACA unless it was attached to the funding bill. Republicans may say they want a deal on DACA publicly, but in reality they want these 800,00+ kids deported. If a deal on DACA doesn't happen now, it's never going to happen.

If Democrats lose momentum over this, it would appear to be because of #FakeNews.

Democrats for demanding amnesty in an unrelated budget bill. 5 years ago the Dems on here were saying the Republicans were to blame for the 2013 shutdown for demanding unrelated policy concessions from the funding bill. Thats what the Dems are doing now.

You can't compare the situations - neither Obama nor any single Democratic member of Congress ever supported defunding the lifesaving ACA premium subsidies that Lyin' Ted sociopathically and hatefully tried to take away. In contrast, plenty of Republicans have long supported DACA, or at least claimed to.

There was a bipartisan bill that could have easily passed the Senate, but Trump decided to derail the negotiations because he's a racist POS.

This shutdown isn't on democrats or republicans.

It's on Trump for derailing the bipartisan and highly regarded compromise that could have easily passed because he wants to appeal to his stupid as hell base.

Also Schumer even offered the mothereffing wall for DACA, and Trump still didn't play ball. It's not like democrats didn't try.

Both parties. They needed votes from both sides, so they are both to blame.

Even shutting down the government in itself was Trump's nihilistic base's goal. Did the bipartisan compromise have enough votes to overcome a veto?

The thing is, DACA is mainly about young people who have been raised as Americans because they were brought here as kids. They speak English as native speakers and don't know any other country as home.

It's weird that they're more content with someone being here legally solely on the basis that they sprung forth from a person's vagina within our borders, yet may have lived their entire life overseas, than people brought here illegally by their parents as children and raised in our society.

The fact that McConnell rejected both amendments, introduced by McCaskill, that would've continued pay for servicemen and women and would have suspended pay for congressional members, makes the blame easier to assign.
