I prefer the majority-Hispanic parts of Texas to any parts of New York.

New York (though for many reasons beside it being my home state).

Texas, even if you hate "Texas culture" there are plenty of places to live here that are seem like they are entirely different worlds. It's hot as balls during the summer for sure, but I am sure we can all agree it is better than Buffalo on a freezing windy day. Where NY (outside the city) is in decline and losing opportunities, Texas is growing. I can't really think of much that NYC has that you can't get in either Austin, Dallas, or Houston.

But without any of that, Texas wins for one simple reason.Texas has the best barbecue in America and this is just a scientific fact that is beyond dispute. Tongue

Tough call.  I have lots of family (both immediate and extended) in Texas, and none to my knowledge in New York.  In terms of its history, New York is by far the better of the two, but Texas seems to have much better food and culture over all, and the urban areas don't really fit the stereotype of the state being a bastion of ultraconservative nuts.  But of course, New York is full of ultraliberal nuts who are probably worse than even the most conservative parts of Texas.  I also prefer having distinct seasons, which would favor New York, but I could tolerate Texas summers if I had to.

I think I'd give the edge to Texas here, but it's close.  Would probably stick to the metro areas, though.

Texans are annoying people, who often like their state way too much.

Still, on average, way better than New Yorkers.
