Gold, Silver and Bronze for Norway in the Men's Skiathlon (= 2 x 15km cross-country) today.

The Alpine Skiing Downhill race (men) and Snowboard slopestyle (women) qualification has been delayed to next week because of heavy winds, both disciplines in which we'd have Gold medal chances.

Still, I guess we could get a first medal today in the Men's Luge Singles or Men's Biathlon Sprint (outsider chance).

In other surprising news, Daniela Iraschko-Stolz - who only returned to the world cup 2 weeks ago after a series of injuries and surgeries - looks to be back in the game for a gold medal in women's ski jumping (tomorrow).

She actually won the very first world cup event after her return and was among the top-3 in the Olympic training sessions.

Winning the Gold medal would be amazing, because our men are really sucking right now (after dominating between 2006 and 2014).

---

In the women's alpine skiing giant slalom tomorrow, I expect a tight race between Viktoria Rebensburg (Germany), Mikaela Shiffrin (USA) and Tessa Worley (France).

But I also believe that our Stephanie Brunner has a good chance for a medal, because she likes  really icy tracks like the one in South Korea and was pretty fast in the training runs.

---

Another medal chance tomorrow is the Biathlon pursuit (men), where Julian Eberhard just missed the medals today with 4th place in the 10km sprint (by only 0.8 seconds !).

---

And of course, the biggest chance for Gold tomorrow will be women's snowboard slopestyle, where Anna Gasser is dominating the scene this year, along with the Big Air events.

German biathlete Laura Dahlmeier has won gold. 🤩🥇🎊

Dahlmeier has won her second gold medal. After the 7.5 km sprint, she this time prevailed in the 10 km pursuit. Congrats! 🥇👏🏻🥇

With 4 gold medals, Germany is still being #1 on the current medal count. 🏅 💪🏻 🏂

Canadian pair skater Eric Radford won the gold medal in the team figure skating event on Sunday.
Therefore, he is the first openly gay gold medal winner in the history of the Winter Olympics.

In his Twitter pic below you can see him with his US-American colleague Adam Rippon - the first openly gay athlete to reach the US Winter Olympics team -, who won bronze in the same event.

Prank: Non-Dutch woman disturbs Olympic medal ceremony by jumping on the stage Tongue

Another day, another bunch of speed skating medals. Usually we are on top of the medal table for about a week and then drop after the speed skating is over (we might win 1 random non-speed skating medal but nobody will care).

So far, so good ...

As of today, we have 2 Gold medals, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze.

And virtually no alpine ski race or snowboard race has been held so far (because of the bad wind).

I still predict somewhere between 4-8 Gold medals and some 10-15 others (= long-term average).

If Sven Kramer (or Jorrit Bergsma) doesn't win tomorrow I think Erben Wennemars will commit suicide. Even if he wins I really worry for Wennemars' mental health if there isn't an Elfstedentocht in the coming decade.

JORRIT BERGSMA OLYMPIC RECORD 12.41.99

No rink record though, Kramer can beat it. World record holder (and traitor) Ted-Jan Bloemen starts now.

Another Olympic recored by (Dutch-)Canadian Ted-Jan Bloemen (12.39.77). Jorrit Bergsma definitely lost his Olympic title at the men's 10,000 metres. But Kramer is about to start. In 2010 Kramer was the overwhelming favourite but he was disqualified because he missed a lane change. In 2014 he surprisingly lost to fellow Dutchman Jorrit Bergsma. Will the third time be the charm? This definitely is the most important race in the career of the best speed skater ever (Sven Kramer).

I fully expect a leaked ISU letter calling for the abolition of all speed skating distances except for the 10,000 metres after the Netherlands didn't win a gold medal on this distance.

How fast things can change ...

Yesterday was a really bad day for us at the Olympics:

A horrible team result in the Men's Downhill Skiing race as well as in the Women's Giant Slalom.

On top of that, a snowboarder crashed into the icy slope and broke his neck (thank goodness he's not paralyzed).

And today, Matthias Mayer won Gold in the Alpine Skiing Super-G (his 2nd Gold medal after Sochi's Super-G) and exactly 20 years to the date after the Gold medal in Nagano by the legendary Hermann Maier. Even their stories are similar: Maier had his legendary crash 3 days before he won Gold, just like Mayer who crashed 3 days ago in the Alpine Combined race.

Also today: a Bronze medal by Kathi Gallhuber in the women's slalom and Janine Flock is on the way to Gold in the women's skeleton race (after 2 of 4 runs).

Interesting side-fact:

Of the 9 German Gold medal(ist)s so far, 8 are from the state of Bavaria and 1 from Saxony.

The 3 Austrian Gold medalists are from Salzburg, Tyrol and Carinthia.

Switzerland's only Gold medalist so far comes from Graubünden.

Of the 5 US Gold medalists, 3 come from California and 2 from Colorado (Redmond Gerrard was born in OH though).

Crap. Was that Vonn's best event just now or is she stronger elsewhere?

Yeah me neither, though that's more of a function of me being busy and not having cable in my dorm. (Thanks a lot, suitemates! Now Comcast will punish us for the next 10,000 years!)

But even then I'm shocked - shocked - that nobody mentioned Mirai Nagasu's triple axle:

The splendid aftermath of the move

Or Chloe Kim's first gold in women's snowboard halfpipe:

Amazing

And Nathan Chen's figure skating disaster, followed by his bounceback:

In the moment

And then there's this guy: The 17-year-old snowboarder who won gold for the US woke up late on the day of the event and had to borrow his roommate's jacket

Guess I am an average Netflix-obsessed millenial after all!

She was awesome. Already had the gold medal locked down and just came out and nailed a double 1080 just for kicks!
