1.- It seems one of the main concerns of rank and file Republicans is the Health Care debate and the issues that come from Obamacare. If elected President, would you repeal Obamacare? What would you replace it with?

This is a good question, but one I will not answer the way my opponents will, we don't like 'big government', but this Big Government program is not Socialism like some of my fellow Republicans may call it. Obamacare provides healthcare for millions of Americans, Usually I think about how things are going to effect the people I know and love and those in my own district, but when I first read ObamaCare I knew it was going to be good for the American people, some parts of it are not the best, but we can repeal those parts and replace them with what is going to be best for the American people.

I will be accused of being a RINO, but Im not Im not a RINO and personally I don't like the terms and labels "Republican" and "Democrat" I like the term American that is what we all are isn't it? We are Americans We fought the British 200 years ago we fought the Nazis 70 years ago and We fought communism in the world for the last 60 years. We are all Patriotic in our own ways, but it doesnt matter if your Blue or Red Republican or Democrat, Conservative or Liberal. We all stand in common on this stage and in this nation, we love our country and we will fight for this country.

My father worked for his living as did his father and many of you watching this debate right now do to, I did too we don't make all the decisions you the American people do, and the American people have spoken, They want ObamaCare and I will not disrespect the American people for what they want as that is not what the Representative of all of them is supposed to do.

2.- As unemployment not only fails to drop but increases in some parts of the country, there is a spirited debate about the best way to create new jobs and lower unemployment for good. Why are you a better choice than your fellow candidates when it comes to creating jobs?

Thank you, I only have a simple response to this one, Taxes! Taxes! Taxes! We cannot continue to tax these corporations at the rate we are now it will lead to ruin not just for the American way of life, but for the American People and our Economy. We don't need to lower taxes just on Corporations, but on the working man and woman too. In my Congressional District there is a town about the same size as the average American town, about 8000 people this town is called Three Rivers, and there is a factory there called American Axel this factor employees 2000 people in a town of 8000, this would be disaster if it left, and it is just trying to make a profit, but the Corporate Tax rate is just too damn high! The People there are represented by the UAW great people I have met with them multiple times and they agree the workers at the Plant are just trying to make a living but the Government is taxing them too damn high! Im not calling for the elimination of the Government, but Im calling for lowering the taxes just a little bit so we can let the harding working people of the UAW and all hard working Americans to have life be just a little bit easier out there.

10.- To Congressman Upton: Congressman, in your open speech you noted the need for bipartisanship and you have been noted as one of the more moderate candidates in the race, if not the most. Do you think such views are really in tune with the primary voters?

People say the extreme wins votes in primaries, it doesn't what wins you votes in the primaries, is electability we have had an alright Presidency these years under President Obama, but we don't need "alright" what we need is a return the days before the Iraq War before this large Budget deficit and before the disasters of the last 40 years, I want not a return to Reagan or Bush or Clinton, but a RETURN TO NORMALCY! God Bless you all and God Bless the United States of America!

Carolla responds to Congressman Upton’s Obamacare comments in the debate

Mr Upton what you just said is basically you want a diet Obamacare.

No there is nothing good about Obamacare what so ever.  Like I said earlier it is a tax basically disguised as a healthcare bill.

What you are basically saying is that you side with President Obama’s on healthcare mostly.

Doesn’t matter if you said you want to partly reform it. There will still be lots of taxes,  premiums and regulations.

Is that what you really want?

Mr.Carolla, I ask you, do you want Americans dying because they cannot afford healthcare? Do you want the people you know dead, because they couldn't afford a procedure? I may not have voted for it originally but as President Obama has said Yes We Can! and what I will say is that if we want a return of the America of the hardworking dying in the streets, because companies raise prices through the roof, Go with Carolla, but if you want Answers, Go with me Carolla says things people like, but I say things that will happen. We can't do them maybe if we had 400 Representatives and 100 Senators in Congress, but I ask him We don't get better with single party control, we get worse I do support taxing every American who can afford to be taxed but I don't support taking money out of the pockets of those who need it the most, I don't see any solution offered by you to fix this broken economy, but like the members of the occupy movement some people many of them work hard for their entire lives, but they can't do anything about rising unemployment they are the silent majority and we need to fix the problems this country has, I am offering Solutions, YOU ARE JUST OFFERING PROBLEMS!

Mr.Carolla, do you know how many people live in Singapore? 5 million, thats 1/60th of the United States Population, and correct me if I am wrong, but Singapore is also a fraction of the size of the United States both Geographically and Economically. You sound like a Democrat right now, I want to be like Scandinavia. I don't want to live in Singapore because I am an American, I dont know much about Singapore it could be a beautiful country, but I dont care because this is America and we don't need to be like Singapore, you're proposing things that we don't know if they will work we know now ObamaCare does work and it helps millions of people from Alabama to Michigan to West Virginia.

Upton 2012 First AD
[/b]

Ad plays in Michigan New Hampshire and Iowa

Hello, Im Fred Upton, and I have been a US congressman for 26 years, that may sounds like a long time, but with the Partisan Deadlock in Congress we have barely gotten anything done, Im not here to blame the democrats only though. Simple Solutions is something people and the right and left want to hear, but we can't get those through, why? Not because we don't want to, but because Republicans and Democrats are more focused on getting reelected then getting solutions for every person in their district.

*cut to Upton and his Family including Kate*

isn't that what our country is really about family, not partisan issues, but we need to focus on not just fighting for Labor rights, and education, but making sure that the American Tax Payer can afford it all. I will not say that it is all Democrats faults as in 2008 when President Obama took office,
the average household income was lower then it had been 8 years earlier under President Clinton.
We don't need to settle these issues by Blue state or Red state we need to settle them by getting the American people back to work whether this is in Iowa New Hampshire or even in Southwest Michigan We need the American Manufacturers back to work.

1.- The Obama Administration has set the date of withdrawal from Iraq by December of this year, which would seemingly end a decade of American military presence in the country. Is this withdrawal the right choice to make?

I don't want America to be a nation builder, but President Bush and Obama has forced us into this situation I think we should stay in these countries to make sure they are stable so we don't let another Iran take over the middle east. With this we need to put an end into this violence I propose by then end of my first term we will hopefully not be in Iraq, but I cannot make any promises America, We don't need to win the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people the Iraqi Government and Iraqi Defense Force need to make sure Iraq is stable, but I think we need to slowly pull out, but with a strong democratic ally in the middle east.

2.- Many of the main issues always being debate inside the Republican Party tend to be social issues and social values, an area in which there appears to be significant disagreement. Where do you stand on abortion?

Abortion, well I don't think the Government should be telling American women what they can and can't do with their bodies, but I do think we need regulation on the issue we need to make sure women can have access to clean and safe abortions and make sure that the American Tax payer decides where we stand. I would be more in favor of the states to decide on the issue of Abortion, but I will not support the issue of repealing Roe v Wade. On another social issue, Gay Marriage America needs to let it happen, the Government shouldn't tell 2 consenting adults what they can and cannot do, If we want a smaller government then we shouldn't tell people whether they can do with their own bodies and own minds.

Congressman Upton: Congressman, while your comments on Obamacare have been discussed in detail the same does not apply to your gun policy, which some NRA activists have described as "troubling". Where do you stand on guns?

Im fully in support of gun rights, we need to have universal background checks and making sure that sick people dont get ahold of guns so we can protect the innocent people of America. America is the land of the free, but we need background checks to make sure people who get guns are not criminals and people with mental instability. An American people that are disarmed is no America at all we need to assure the American people the ability to purchase Firearms.

Closing Statement

I believe that we need a free and equal America one that fights for not just the small guy, but the entire country. If we cannot balance moderation and equality then we need to strive, don't vote for me because I am a Republican, vote for me because you respect my views. We the American people have too long been held silent, but that time will end when you cast your vote whether Republican or Democrat and we need to fight for the American way of life and the American Dream. GOD BLESS AMERICA! AND GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

1.- Iran is now at the front of the newspapers after the UN expressed misigivings about the Iranian nuclear program, warning of the potential for Iran to obtain nuclear weapons. Should Iran be allowed to develop them, and what will you do as President on this issue?

No, Iran is a terrorist state in the middle east, I will not attack them unless they are believed to be developing Nuclear Weapons for the use against Israel or another ally in the middle east. I will also not support Saudi Arabia if they continue with the constant and utter disrespect for the rights of women inside their country. Human Rights belong to all people not just those within our own border, and I will make the same decision with Iran we don't want them having Nukes and attacking Israel they are the Axis of Evil.

2.- As unemployment remains close to 10 the issue of unions continues to gain relevance in domestic politics. The question is, where do you personally stand on unions, and do you support the idea of right-to-work laws?

Unions, are not a fundamental good, or bad. We need to let the free market it take it's course and I don't think laws like Right to Work or Taft-Hartley are the answer to the free markets problems, but I think we need to work towards a future, I dont think we should break the people that built the American middle class. Unions helped build my home state and our country, Caesar Chavez is one of my heros and he helped build hispanic farmworkers and other migrant workers, into a force to be feared they did not settle things with violence, or intimidation but with cooperation. Why can't we Republicans and Democrats come together and repeal Taft-Hartley.

Congressman, given your stances on issues such as gun control, health care, abortion and same-sex marriage several have doubted why you should be running as a Republican. What would you say makes you a Republican?

I don't want to be a Democrat because I believe in less Government and I don't think we should raise taxes. I think we should abolish corporate tax rate so we can bring jobs back to America I also believe we should not let the Government tell us what to do with our money, I want to lower the top bracket of taxes to 25%. Then I think we should move onto a negative income tax, which I know will help allevate the Government burden for the tax payer. People can take jobs with a negative income tax and not lose their benefits this will let us lower the tax payers burden.

Closing Statement

I am sorry that I may not seem like a regular Republican, but Im not I dont like everyone else on this stage, I dont like Republicans or Democrats Bushes and Clintons Romneys and Obamas. These Parties dont work, but I think we can change this if we fight for change and we will fight for a better America! God Bless you all and God Bless America.

1.- With the sentence of former Governor Rod Blagojevich the issue of corruption in government has gained some significant exposure, particularly as the nation seeks answers and solutions. What would you say is the current level of corruption in America, and what would you do to address it?
__________________________________________________________________________________

We have widespread corruption in the United States, Im not just saying it is Democrats, or Republicans it is a factor in politics, we shouldn't be running as Democrats or Republicans, but on Merit, Im Fred Upton and I have done this this and this and that's why you're supposed vote for me. However, I would like to quote President Washington “However political parties may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion.” This system ingrained into the American Political System has infected our most basic fabric something eating through at our democracy like a tumor. I am not declaring that we are a broken society which we may very well. We need to fight for reform to get lobbying to help not the Politicians, but those who really need it the American people.

__________________________________________________________________________________
2.- One of the apparent disadvantages of the Republican Party at the moment is the legacy of the Bush Presidency, which while improving somewhat in numbers remains unpopular among the public. What is your personal view of the Bush years?
__________________________________________________________________________________
President Bush, was a good man, but he got us into needless spending drags in which we didnt need. I would like to say that we are out of Iraq, but that just isnt true yet. The way he handled 9/11 was good, but I do not agree with many of his policies President Bush inherited a Surplus and what did he do with that? He put us into a record breaking deficit that's not a lie, but President Obama hasnt handled it well either, but we need a new leap forward. Im not calling for a 2nd new deal Im calling for a 2nd square deal, one pioneered by one of the Fathers of our party Teddy Roosevelt started. Im calling for people to have equal footing in life not equal but to help the little guy fight.

__________________________________________________________________________________ 8.- To Congressman Upton: Congressman, there's growing disdain between many Republicans regarding your surprising stances on the issues as of lately, to the point in which the Tea Party will field a candidate against you in the upcoming primary. How do you explain running for President while presenting so few policies that appear to appeal to the Republican voters?
__________________________________________________________________________________
Well, I dont give a Damn if some Republicans dont like me. It is their constitutional right to try and primary me if they believe they will defeat me then I believe the people of Southwest Michigan will vote for the right choice and that choice is Fred Upton.
