Transexuals In Government

This is a  thread prompted by the  discussion between Lt. Governor Provincial Rights,  myself and Jake that sort of took over the New Zealand Election thread.

New Zealand has a transsexual MP (and two gay Cabinet minsters for that matter). She won a constituency twice, then got into parliament again on the list vote. Jake thinks she should not be allowed in parliament.

What are your views on this?

I say if she's been elected then it doesn't matter what she is.

I'd like to know who the world's first trans-sexual MP is.

Whoever it is, they should be barred from serving in government. We don't need children seeing that type of crap in government.

If the People elect them, then I don't see any reason why they shouldn't serve. Any restriction on the election of transsexuals would be an undue violation of the People's right to elect as they please: there is no inherent or assumed incapacity to govern, as would be the case with, say, a minor.

No, for the reasons Emsworth stated.  A person in a permanent coma should be allowed to serve if elected, although that's a terrible comparison.

A child rapist has committed a crime (and a very heinous one at that). A transsexual has not.

To address your point, only eligible voters should be allowed to run, and I support depriving felons of their voting rights for the duration of their sentences.

The term 'perverted' is a useless one, Jake, as it referrs to subjective preferrences as if they were objective norms.  A more accurate statement from an intolerant such as yourself might be "I dislike transexuals", rather than that transexualism is 'perverted'.

Run a poll Casey on how many people think it's normal to lop off your dick and grow breasts (off forum because we have alot of pyschos here). Possibly 20% will think it's normal, though that's how many support unfettered access to any type of abortion.

No, I don't think that there is a chance of him getting elected. But I do support punishing felons by temporarily suspending their voting rights.

I've never known of any transsexual to order the deaths of millions of people.  Is having surgery to change your gender - which doesn't really affect anybody else at all - really worse than that?

Are transsexuals people who actually change their gender surgically, or are they simply people who crossdress and the like? I keep getting them confused with another word.
