Peru's political system reminds me of the Portuguese republic right before Salazar.

No. Peru Libre by itself has enough members to block any impeachment, unless Cerrón’s faction splits (the other faction of the party is largely drawn from teacher’s unions and closer to Castillo himself), which they’ve given no sign of doing over this.

No peru libre only has 37/132 seats . There is together for peru which gives them 42/132 seats so unanimous support among the rest of the parties which are center to right wing would do it. However Castillo has not governed like Allende but instead just a generic social Democrat with social conservatism.   88 seats are required to impeach. Social conservative policies are also probably keeping the Christian Democrats happy.

Polling says Castillo approval is only 25%

Obviously this impeachment like most is purely political but ar the same Perus runoff system is awful.

Oh, that’s true. For some reason I keep thinking there are 130 members.

Well, so far Castillo has had 4 Prime Ministers in less than a year in office. But, he probably won't reach the record 10 Prime Ministers in just one year during the Portuguese First Republic. Wink

Castillo has been impeached and removed from office after attempting to dissolve Congress. Dina Boularte will be the first female President of Peru.

Quote

Dina Boluarte became Peru’s first female President on Wednesday, capping off a dramatic day which saw her predecessor arrested for the alleged crime of rebellion and impeached by lawmakers.

Boluarte, the country’s former vice president, was sworn into the top job at Congress to become Peru’s sixth President in under five years.

The ceremony took place hours after a majority of 101 members in the 130-person legislative body voted to impeach former leader Pedro Castillo.

Lol, all of the presidents are and Peru also has the most covid deaths per persons everywhere on Earth, so it isn't like the former presidents did an excellent job.

Peru is a failed country.
