I'm doing a mock election, so I need one with no major third parties (due to limited map colors).

You're actually going to hold the mock election?  Or are you go to try to get Dave to do it?

'80 and '72. 19, that is. Smiley

'72 marked that people were finally ready for a new direction, but Jimmy would have to prove it to them.

Hmm...

Either: 1932, 1936, 1948 or 1964

'48 is a good one.  wasn't born yet, but I just loved all those pictures in my elementary school books of Truman holding up the New York Times "DEWEY DEFEATS TRUMAN" headline.  The moral that stuck with me was one of the press (often called "the media" nowadays in the USA) and how I should take it all with a grain of salt.  I suppose that wasn't the planned lesson, but it's the one I got out of it.  Definitely 1948's my favorite.

1976.  It was my first.  Not because it pitted two failures against each other.

I'd have to say 1948. "Give' em Hell" Harry coming from behind to win fairly comfortably

That would have to be my least favourite. Still, it's ensured why me and my kin are Democrats

Fun to watch from a cruel spectator's perspective, though. High drama. Grin
Plus four way race, loads of interesting alignments, three likeable candidates, ...

Although Truman was unable to do much domestically, thanks to the Dixiecrats.

I dunno...you knew (rather than "knew") in advance that Bush would win 2004? That's odd. Tongue

Wow, PBrunsel didn't pick 1928!

I honestly can't decide. 1948 was great because of the comeback and the eduring image of Harry waving the "Dewey defeats Truman" paper. 1960 was great because it had the greatest campaign spot of all time (the Kennedy jingle). 1980 was great because in my mind, anything associated with the year 1980 is automatically great (Mt. St. Helens excluded). 1992 was great solely because of Ross Perot. 2000 and 2004 were great because of the great range of emotions I went through for both of them.

1948, 1960, 1980, 1992, 2000, 2004 take your pick

2000 - Got me interested in politics.

1960 seemed awesome, too, but the result was far from awesome.
