On June 18, 2016, Michael Steven Sandford was arrested at a Donald Trump presidential campaign rally in Las Vegas, Nevada in the United States after he failed to seize the pistol for a police officer.

My question is what if Sandford was able to somehow take a shot at Trump and succeed?

How would the Republican Convention go?  What would be the out of the blue moon ticket and would  it be able to win in the general?

Since Pence wasn’t announced as VP, I think the nom would go to Cruz.

Cruz wins the nomination and is faced with a polling deficit against Clinton.

However, Clinton continues to be dogged by allegations of impropriety.

At the debates, Cruz easily bests Clinton and is able to lessen the perception that he is an extremist.

Polls have the race in a statistical dead heat when FBI Director James B. Comey releases his infamous letter.

By election day, Cruz has solidified a 2-point lead in the national popular vote.

I think Republicans would do everything in their power to stop Cruz, as they really don't like him either.

I'd guess the ticket would be something like Walker/Jindal, Rubio/Haley, Ryan/Pence or Romney (yes Mitt Romney)/Portman.
