Former North Carolina Sen. and lawyer/activist John Edwards wins the 2016 Democratic presidential primaries over his longtime nemesis, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders by forming a coalition of poor minorities, upscale suburbanites and working class white voters, the foundation of his campaign. He faces off against Republican businessman Donald Trump, who wins the nomination in a populist surge. Both populist candidates. Who wins the election?

Poor John Edwards. He could have given Trump the biggest threat of his life. Working class Southerner.

For some reason, he was a bad running mate for Kerry in 2004. He wasn't loyal, he was looking towards the future.
