What would this scenario look like if George Bush retires after his vice presidency, who wins the nomination and what would the map look like.

Howard Baker wins the nomination and picks Jeane Kirkpatrick as his running mate.

Dole wins the nomination. Baker was too moderate for the GOP of the 80s. Dole being the nominee does give the Democrats a better shot at wining the White House.

Bob Dole wins the nomination and subsequently the election. He picks, like in 1996, Jack Kemp for the VP slot.

Dull Dole would have a harder time in the general than Bush, being more boring, dull, and really boring.

Papi Bush wasn't exactly Mr. Charisma himself.

Bush is such a tryhard that I can’t even envision a scenario where he doesn’t run.
He gets whacked in 1987 or so?

Maybe he's implicated in Iran-Contra.
