I think this is a simple question that many have faced by now. Should something unfortunate happen that causes your untimely demise, do you support donating your organs upon your death?

As for myself, I say yes, absolutely. It says so on my driver's license. Furthermore, although I haven't had the conversation yet, both of of my parents have the same notation on their own. So long as there is no chance of survival, I would make no effort against that wish (as I would hope they would do the same with me).

To be honest, I think we should have a national opt-out policy where one must proactively choose not to donate one's organs. I don't understand why anyone would choose to opt-out, but apparently they exist.

I can't because I had the hepatitis when I was a lad.

Yep, I’m an organ donor. However, reading how there’s debate over what constitutes true death and the timing of organ harvesting in the US does concern me since there’s a possibility that the body might still feel pain.

I can't because I had the hepatitis when I was a lad.

Whore.

Yeah, that would definitely be an Other vote. It's not that you wouldn't, it's just that you can't.

However, I'm not sure how that works today. I know that certain people with HIV can donate to others with HIV based on new federal law. I don't know how that works with other transmittable diseases (such as Hepatitis), to be honest.

We never figured out how I got it.  It was called nonA/nonB at the time, they suspected either shellfish or playing with super glue in an enclosed space.

In Austria everyone who dies is automatically an organ donor, unless you object before you die.

So, yes I am - because I have not objected (and I won't).

Nope, officially objected to it. Willing to donate blood, though, but they don't want mine.

Organ Donor status is not shown on any ID here, but yes, I would donate my organs.

No.

When I realized I could no longer give blood, I just assumed that applied to organ donation, too.

I am, however, still on a bone marrow registry somewhere.

I'm not going to condemn either of you, but based on pure curiosity, why have you both opted that way? What is your reasoning?

Don't have a license yet, but will certainly be an organ donor when I get one.

Yes. I consider it profoundly unethical not to, unless there are medical/health reasons prohibiting you.

I will have no need for any of my organs when I die. If someone else can benefit from them, why shouldn't they be able to?

Perhaps I'm overly paranoid, but the idea of people messing with my body after I've died worries me.

This + halachic considerations is why I'm registered as a non-donor.
