I would like to motion this to be brought to a vote, since debate has stopped.

The question is on final passage of the bill. All those in favor, say Aye; those opposed, say No.

Abstain. Love space travel, but we can't afford to spend too much at the moment....

Once again, I am I don't like to interfere in Senate affairs, but I feel I must say something about this.

Sen. Harry is a visionary, no doubt.  However, like all visionaries, 25% of his ideas are very good, 25% have some merit and 50% of them are just plain bad.  I think that this one fits into the final category.

Even leaving behind concerns about a balanced budget, the idea of a working space elevator is both fanciful and unfeasable.  When one considers the initial investment once puts into this, and the cost of maintinance, one is immediatly turned off by the idea that a piece of space debris the size of a fist could absolutly destroy the apparatus.  If the Senator is interested in promoting friendly and more cost effective forms of space travel, I think that he should look elsewhere.

The bill has garnered enough votes to fail. Senators have 24 hours to vote or change their votes.
