So long as we protect fetuses and guns, America will remain free.

Absolutely disgusting. I pray the victims may find peace and the shooter may endure an eternity in hell. Good thing he's already there.

How many times do I have to hear this before something actually gets done? No, I'm not going to stand down on this. Another 50+ Americans are dead because we as a country have decided that guns are more important than human life. I don't say that with a smile on my face. I say that with fright and anger.

Well drugs are illegal and MANY people still use them. What would banning guns do?

People often use drugs to make themselves feel better, perhaps they are addicted (which is a mental health problem in the country). But guns are weapons of malicious intent, far too easy to obtain for someone mentally unstable to take down 50 innocent lives at a country music concert. Gun violence is one of many problems in this country, and as much as we don’t like dealing with problems (Global warming, debt, infrastructure), today absolutely is a day to debate what to do about guns, if only because our media attention span will move on in a week when the President goes off on another distracting Twitter want.

I’m an atheist, so prayers for the victims will do nothing IMO. It is a time for action on gun reform, just like it has since December 14, 2012 (Sandy Hook), or June 12, 2016 (Pulse nightclub).

The GOP congress and GOP president will do absolutely nothing in regards to gun control.
Wrong. They will cut mental health funding and make gun laws more lax.

At least 50 dead, 200+ injured. Shooter killed by LVPD as previously noted. Stephen Paddock was indeed the shooter Undersheriff McMahill LVPD on CNN right now stating, at least 8 guns in his hotel room.

I never said banning guns would do anything (this is, unless there was a mass confiscation effort, which is neither practical nor constitutional). I think military-style assault weapons should be out of the hands of the general population. We can't even get universal background checks passed into law, something supported by 90-95% of the American people. The weaponry that is available now is designed for one primary purpose. That purpose is to kill other human beings quickly and efficiently. I could understand a handgun for personal defense. But so long we allow production and possession of the most efficient lethal firearms, there's no reason why we shouldn't expect mass killings with those weapons. I don't believe that is a right worth dying for, let alone worth one's children.

I'm talking about drugs like heroin and meth. They are illegal but people still use them. So banning them or heavily regulating them will not keep it out of the hands of people who really want them.

Stephen Paddock. Some retired white guy who doesn't appear so far to have wacko affiliations of any stripe.

There’s a time and a place for everything, my friend. Within the first few hours after a tragedy isn’t it.

Within the first few hours, you may be right. But I'm sure later today we're going to hear from the NRA and other pro-gun organizations how guns didn't cause this tragedy and how we shouldn't politicize what happened. And then, once again, our political paradigm will ignore the issue and move on. If Newtown and Orlando couldn't move our political discourse, nothing will. I'm just sick and tired of this happening and our so-called leaders doing absolutely nothing.

Don't forget the thoughts and prayers.

Prayers do nothing. Those that have been affected by this horrendous tragedy have my deepest sympathies. I care enough to actually want to act. Prayers, thoughts, and words are meaningless without action. So many are dying in vain. I want something done.
